    Hi everyone. I have an 07 4.0L 6 Speed manual tranny with 117,000 miles.
    I am noticing she's runing a little sluggish lately. Hubby has maintained filters & plugs regularly and only recently am I noticing her power isn't the same.. I've also had a random occasional RPM jump when shifting. It seems to happen shifting from 3rd-4th gear. It jumps 3500 -4000 when letting off the clutch. I love love this truck and this forum is my go to for advice.

    Thank you all in advance for any suggestions!

    Welcome to the forum

    Could you give more details about "jumping"
    Is the clutch slipping And the rpms reve up to catch up with the flywheel? When shifting?
    Or is the rpm jump happen with no foot on the gas?

    My foot is off the gas when I shift and it's happening when I release the clutch and depress the gas pedal...when the rpms go that high as soon as I release gas pedal again it returns to normal. It may only happen once during a 100 mile trip.

    To clarify, is this what is happening?

    1. Let off gas.
    2. Press Clutch pedal in (holding it in)
    3. Change gears
    4. Release the clutch pedal
    5. Press the gas - and THEN the RPM jump?

    Sounds like it might be a clutch that's starting to slip/go out. 117k miles isn't unusual for needing a new clutch if it's seen a lot of city or stop/go driving, or towing, offroading, etc.

    @TnShooter exactly!

    @eon_blue I don't tow with it. I'm 2nd owner & I'm fairly certain 1st owner didn't either but if course couldn't be positive.

    Thanks so much for input!

    Even still, 117k on a clutch is about average for its lifespan especially if it sees a lot of stop and go driving. Some people get over 200k+ on a clutch but it's usually due to driving mostly highway miles.

    Just a thought based on the described symptoms and mileage, unless its already been replaced at some point

    Hi Carolyn. This is Bruce from South Lake Tahoe. I’ve been searching the forum for advice on my 07 Tacoma’s clutch slipping and finally found your thread. I’m having the exact same problem as you. Mine has 175K and carries a thousand pound 4-wheel camper. The clutch is slipping when I shift into 2-6th gear when the engine is not fully warmed up on cold mornings. My dilemma is, what to do about it, and where. I do most of my maintenance including replacing brakes, shocks, alternators. Replacing a clutch in the driveway is over my head & ripping the engine apart in the driveway in Tahoe in December will likely cause a quick end to the drought. I was going to start by replacing the gear oil. If that doesn’t solve the problem, my next step is to have it inspected by a reliable, honest, transmission shop in Reno or Carson City. (No trusted shops exist in South Lake Tahoe). I have no idea who to call, and I can’t afford the time or money to get mixed up with yet another crooked transmission shop with winter knocking on our door in a town with horrible public transportation. Any help or suggestions for a good affordable shop to inspect/repair/replace my clutch in Reno or Carson City? Even Sacramento? What ended up happening with your Baby?
