Yeah working from the truck would be pretty cool, and I'm with you as well on facing the windows. I've forgotten to take down the second panel before when moving the main one forward. Wouldn't want that to happen while working for sure. A couple clamps to hold the 90* angle piece in place to the side rails might do the trick.

 

do you have a weboost currently? i haven't been too stoked on mine for data

i'm planning on installing a lagun table in the lower area with my bences to act as my desk when needed.

 

I don't have a WeBoost currently. I don't expect it to open up too many areas for me, but maybe just improve quality in areas where my connection is borderline iffy.
(And just for that, it's pretty expensive, so I hesitate)

Seems like a good data connection in the most remote areas is still 3-4 years away at best, dunno. Haven't been following starlink in great detail. Its not available in my area yet.

 

Gotcha - yea, if you're using a hotspot I recommend looking into a MIMO antenna instead of a weboost. The weboost only runs data on specific bands and with one antenna, while a MIMO setup will increase your range and pull in a better connection with multiple antennas. That's an oversimplified explanation, but basically I've found my weboost to work decent for voice gaps (and some data) and the MIMO to greatly increase my hotspot range/quality.

Word - yea I got my antenna on ebay, it's a takeoff from a cop car and does 5 bands actually (two LTE, wifi and gps), but I only use the LTE inputs. If I ran something like a cradlepoint router you could use all 5.

 

What kind of hotspot are you using?

Luckily I only need an occasional connection to work, so I make a point of hitting towns and drifting in and out of connectivity when I’m traveling. It’s important for me to have a meal at a coffee shop where there are pretty waitresses at least once a week lol.

But yes I just read through all the latest posts and Starlink, WeBoost, and the rest are very interesting. I have a friend who said he was able to work via WeBoost pretty successfully. Remote connectivity just isn’t quite there yet.

 

Yea, just depends on if the towers in the area are transmitting on the same bands as your carriers data, etc. Tons of variables.

I've even seen a few things with people running their weboost directly into a hotspot mimo jack but I didn't get much luck trying it in remote areas because the weboost is only a single antenna (not dual).

Has anyone taken a measurement between the 2 side t-slots on lower tent rail? looking for distance from center of slots.

Tell me more of this setup? I got a weboost for vice help. You have to be right next to it so doesn’t make sense for other uses. Good points on the star link. didn’t think of that just assumed.

I’ve plugged them in other threads but check out ATS springs. They are much cheaper and really solid - they do custom packs as well. I’m not affiliated with them
at all but I have a set on my rig (with a drifter, buildout, swingout, and 35” spare) and love them.

Here's the antenna that I have on my cab roof, although I got mine on ebay for like $60. Its totally overkill since I only use the mobile antennas, but I didn't want to get anything super pricey just to test this whole theory out. I will most likely go to a smaller LTE-only antenna this summer and mount it on the T channels on the camper. In fact, I cut off the other 3 input cables on mine as it was too big of a wire harness to run so it only does LTE now anyways ha.

The inputs on this literally plug right into my 8800L hotspot and do a pretty impressive job of increasing my data coverage.

If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, you can get something like a cradlepoint router (they use them on mobile vending machines, etc). Those can run dual sim cards (swaps between whichever carrier has better service where you are), piggy back off of existing wifi networks nearby, and run gps. Of course for that setup you need to power them and pay for two data plans. The MIMO antenna is passive, so no power necessary.


I've also considered buying the larger interior antenna for my WeBoost to see if it helps with the phone proximity issue you've noted above (https://www.signalbooster.com/produ...RQI4tfTIIMIzbXduoBBQ82b9stwOTmC8aAqxGEALw_wcB). It's the that comes with the RV-oriented system, but I was also thinking that I might get some weird signal interference since it's intended for a larger rig with further antenna/booster/phone spacing.

 

Got it. The Mimo one you have doesn't seem too big. I was thinking it was something similar to that. $60 is way better than the 3-400 ones I was seeing on eBay but if old cop stuff then you can get a deal. If I was using it full time the dual sims may make sense (although pricey) I would be looking for a passive setup as you noted.

Also need to consider 5G now as an upgrade. I saw some other ones that were similar to the one you noted but super flat. although large they were no more than 1/2" - 1" tall. slap on top of the camper and done.

 

I believe these all are compatible with 5G signals still. I'll go with something like this

haha if i bought it it would sit for awhile. my weboost is still sitting in its box. Once i get the x1 this weekend ill have a much better idea of how to set it up.

there were some not as pricy setups but could be very flat setup on top of the tent potentially.

 

I measured the outer T-slots. They are right on 2cm wide behind the flanges with the gap being 1cm wide. So 3/4" inch with 3/8" bolt shaft should fit well. Is there a standard size or name I need to look for?

The ARB awning came with universal mounting hardware which of course doesn't work with the SP T-slot. Need a bracket that has room to bolt the awning up higher than the T-slot to avoid interference with the side door. Something like this. But I can't find any actual brackets like this online. Almost all are L-shaped. Any suggestions? Or just go to a fabrication shop and get them made?

 

SP just got theirs in, they look similar to that.
