Hi there. I'm in the market to buy a new Tacoma. Looking for a TRD Offroad in Army Green, double cab and a 6' bed. I'm having a hell of a time finding a truck with these variables that doesn't have the premium Offroad package, and while it sounds nice, I'm not trying to spend an extra $4-6,000 on it. I've been in contact with NINE dealerships over the last week or so. No solid leads at this point. I know there's a semi-conductor shortage and production has ben scaled back. But I figured I'd check in here and see if anyone had advice. Thanks!

I have a 2021 Offroad Long bed Double Cab. 63 day old. Excellent truck.

7568 has been a unicorn a while, it isn't new thing.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-unicorn-of-3rd-gen-tacomas-model-7568a.412954/

Given the shortage - since Oct last year, its been harder to find, in my experience.
You will love it. Hold out for it.. I contacted 63 dealers before found allocation. Hope you get the LED, its a must have.

Now if you want a 2wd Tacoma - I can get 300 of them, in a 50 mile radius. Get the one you really want

    Good luck.

From what I just experienced, the shortage is real and whatever units that come in sell out quick. This is especially true here in California. Anything TRD Pro is even tougher.

You should tell us where you live. If I knew of one here in Southern California, it may not help you so much if you’re in New York.

I searched for weeks to find an SR5 V6 W4D Access Bed. I believe at this moment there are 6 of them within a 300 mile range of my house.

Whenever one would show up at a dealer near me I would race there just to test drive it and find it gone.

Double Cabs / TRDs were on the lot sometimes by the dozens, but the Access Cabs were not.

I finally found one and bought it. Love it. Happy to have it. I suspect eventually you will find what you are looking for.

I'm in Portland, OR. The dealers for the most part reference the shortage and direct me to a truck with every upgrade possible with an MSRP of $45,000. And while heated leather seats sound like a real treat, it's not something I need. Others simply tell me to continue checking their inventory online, and/or they'll be in touch. I've also heard several say, "We have that truck coming in in 3 weeks, but it's already reserved".

Your best chance will be to put in an order for allocation if you're set in what you want. It might take a few weeks/months and you'll have to put down a deposit, but Portland is large enough to get that model sooner or later. I'm in Beaverton, and a year ago I had a similar situation where I had a specific package that I wanted (Barcelona Red DCSB with LED headlights), and none of the Portland dealers had what I wanted. They were more interested in trying to get me in a white or silver one than offering any help locating a Red one.

I got lucky and found what I wanted at Capitol Toyota in Salem. When I got there, they insisted they didn't have any Red Tacomas even though it was in their system. We found it literally being unloaded from the carrier out in their side lot.

I live real close to a big dealer and frequented their lot for several weeks. I was stone-cold-amazed at seeing literally 20-30 TRD's on one day and
then 2 days later there were only 5 on the lot. The next few days another 20-30 on the lot and then a few days later nothing. Went by there yesterday
the section with TRD's was empty. Heck the lowly SR's sell like hot-cakes too as well as standard double cab SR5's.

I should come out of retirement and sell these things ...

I double the recommendation to order one from a dealer. $500 is normal and is refundable if you change your mind.

3 weeks ago I put down $500 on an Offroad, 4x4, DCLB, Army green, Premium package, Advanced tech, and LED headlghts. Full MSRP - $45k - no one here in SoCal would budge off that and many wanted to add on to it. Was given an estimate of 3 months. Hopefully I will hear something soon.

    This is a Unicorn.

I'm well aware of the way that Tacomas (and Toyotas in general) hold their value. I have considered this and might go for an Offroad with the Premium Offroad Package if I have no luck in the coming days/weeks. I'd just prefer not to. Cutting my monthly payment by $70 a month would be helpful.

Good luck on your search. I bought my red DCLBOR in May of 2020 as soon as the dealership reopened from COVID-19 shutdowns. I had no idea how rare these trucks tend to be. I just walked in and told the sales guy what I wanted and within minutes he came back and said “I think we found your unicorn”. I thought to myself that seems like a strange thing to say, but signed the documents and picked up the truck the next day. For this model of truck, mine is pretty bare bones and I love it. Hold out for what you want and you will eventually find it. Just keep searching and calling dealerships. And now for the self gratifying pic of my truck.

Just has a salesman tell me "I understand that the army green is out of your price point..." because I don't want the Premium Offroad Package. WTF is that??

If additional money is helpful then why not consider other trim levels? Especially considering the $50,000 Tacoma has the same engine and transmission as the $32k Tacoma. $6 - $8k can buy a lot of aftermarket upgrades.

It's a sales tactic. He's sized you up and are banking on you proving him wrong by opening your wallet very wide.
