Ironically that's from one state road that goes from Pennsylvania to Maryland. Nothing but farms! With the rain this week and them working on the fields its turned the road into a swamp.


In other news my quest for a driving to work beater is at a stand still. The Subaru turned into a domestic dispute with the guys fiancee' so I quickly nope'd out of that one. Been browsing FB Marketplace to no avail. I do have a crazy notion though. I've been doing the maintenance and other repairs on the aunt's '03 Mercedes SLK230 for a couple years now. However it's at the point of needing several nickpicky things and right now the brakes are super soft and need a complete going through. She's been on the fence about selling it. Thinking of handing her a check and using it as my summer beater. Crazy, I know, but it has been a somewhat reliable car. It gets decent fuel economy despite needing premium. I guess since I have little hair now my beard can blow in the wind.

Ironically the SLK230 is a dead reliable Merc of the era. The 2.3L supercharged is a really good, smooth engine. Its been a dealer baby since my aunt and uncle bought it until they split a couple years ago and I offered to take over so she wouldn't spend as much. Yes, the engine leaks a little oil from the magnetic cam adjuster, but that's it. It will eventually need a supercharger rebuild, but I'm fully capable of doing it. I'm trying to rationalize this in my head. The icing on the cake is it's a 6 speed manual that shifts like butter. Agh, the abuse I'm gonna be in for.

 

Only when Delta09 and Venom are home.

 

It's probably a better financial decision to find a first gen 2wd taco, restore it a bit, and mod that with a supercharger for a summer daily. And that's sayin something!

Meh, my 2nd gen would do that in the winter/cold weather too. The real test would be to drain the oil and see what it looks like.

 

Yeah, alright. I'll do that soon. Taking note of coolant levels for now. Feeling like it's all adding up in my head to be the dreaded though. I better get the Runner out of the snow.

 

Treated the ol'girl to some new OEM headlights, oil change, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, rear diff oil change, tranny oil change, and serpentine belt replacement.

I agree. It might be ok. Is you're rig an early '06? Because of the design of the fill tube....moisture tends to find it's way up there and mix with a bit of oil.

I been thinking a little crazy myself on occasion. I really want a Corolla hatchback 6 speed. I could trade in the Taco on one then buy an old truck to tinker on and still do truck things with.

Since I sold the 5th Gen 4Runner 6 months ago the Tacoma has been pulling full time duty.
2005 original owner and still going strong.
