    Sucks, but this is fairly common for small fab shops that get too big too quickly. Pelfreybilt is a perfect example.

    I hate writing grants. I hate getting pulled from "normal" duties to write grants on the day that they are due. By noon.

    Must be a surprise grant.
    Surely no one procrastinated until the very last minute, then decided to pawn it off on you. Right? That would be rude.

    Good luck. Doesn’t sound like a good morning.

    Yes and no on surprise grant. Last week the state reached out and asked if we could help them spend money. My agency said sure, and then another group started working on the proposal and then submitted it, short notice and all. It was received pretty well, but they had some follow up questions and suggested edits. At that point I got roped back into it and was asked to review and rewrite, due the following morning; this was Saturday/Sunday. The proposal that had been submitted was eat up, so I basically had to completely redo it. That success is what has now landed me back on the 3rd version redo after the state had a few more questions, and then added to the original with even more money and an ask for expanded duties.
    Good news is that there is a team working this one, not just me this time.
    So while this wasn't on anybody else for half-assing it to the last minute, it is on somebody else for saying yes to the state after the Good Idea Fairy showed up.
    Crap it was just said that I did an "amazing job" on the previous effort on the call. That means I'll continue to get targeted.
    At least I'm not volunteering.

    That really sounds like a pain, but yay more money! When I was with the VFD, grants and fundraising were paramount to equipment purchase and anything we wanted above the bare bones basics.
    Good deal that you're able to write them effectively. We had one guy who helped with ours, and he said he enjoyed it, but it wasn't my forte.

    Don't you bring that evil on me! Worst thing I ever did was agree to help on one. Ever since I end up getting pulled into them.
    There are people that love that crap and build careers out of it. I know Dallas County has an entire department of them, as does Parkland. The really sucky thing is my agency hired someone to do these, but here I am. Now admittedly part of this is because it relates to some pretty specialized stuff which nobody else really knows about or does, so I'm stuck regardless.

    Agreed. Pay is pretty good, just these things that get annoying.

    Yeah, I've been identified as key/essential/mando fun for a long time before all this. I usually start self-deploying whenever something blows up (literally) or hits the fan anyway. That stuff I don't mind. This stuff its not so good being essential.

    :frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty: Finally decide to get a LEER 180 for my truck... drive all the F'in way to Denton to get it ordered, and get a call today saying that LEER has discontinued (???) the 180 for the 2nd Gen 5ft bed? But their website still shows it as 'fits my truck' so... :crapstorm:

    // rant.

    Told my wife the only solution is that I need two trucks. One for travel and another to haul my bikes around in.

    unfortunately not. If I could use a cab-height cap, I'd have lots of options. Problem is fitting my bikes in the truck, I haven't been riding much the last couple years because the rack I have now requires me to take the basket off and at least one side panel to make room for it. So it was a constant 'is it worth taking it apart to put it back in a few weeks for the next trip' sort of thing. The mid-rise caps are the lowest height I can put on and still fit the bike in standing up with the front wheel removed.
