Good morning all. I called into work this AM, have plenty of hours available and just want to make sure my wife is doing ok. She's only been awake about 10 minutes I think since we got home last night at 6 and hasn't eaten anything but 2 popsicles in 36 hourso_O

Getting things like that done tends to knock most people down for awhile.

    I hope she feels better

I’ll make a wooden base one of these days and put a small bowl under the chain but here’s a start.

I'm going to share pictures with couple of guys at work, also keep my eyes open for a old grinder at garage sale days! Such a cool thing. I'm going to look at work as I'm pretty certain I have a few junk dial calipers...it's only fitting you see...? Lol

I had an old pair of Brown & Sharpe dial calipers I hung onto for years, the dial was messed up. Threw them in the scrap last time I went to the crusher :pout:

I shared picture of your tractor attachment repair with one of our welder dudes. He was pretty impressed; those kinds of thing you see and kind of put in the old memory bank. He builds and repairs tractor implements and builds planters....I think like 4 rows out of older larger ones, that was one of his more recent projects anyway.

We’ve got a drawer full of them here. I guess that’s what you get when you give them out to employees with no accountability to if they are damaged. No incentive to take care of them.

I've started ordering Fowler premium dial calipers for this reason. The last set of Starrett brand I put in the shop, one was obviously dropped, and the other had the ID jaws chewed by a end mill. :annoyed:
Then...all the coaching I can....keep the rack covered and away from flying chips! I even have shown what the innards look like with the spring loaded gear....see when that gear hits a chip...well that's how the dial reads all wanky

I only use my old manual Mitu's when I'm checking ID or OD on abrasive surfaces or anything that may remove material. I'm only on my second set of digital Mitu's in 9 years and the last one only failed because the electronics melted lol (checking hot parts in the lathe too much).

    I Love that.
Just rust up those welds and it will be perfect.

don’t they have rust welding rods?
They seem to have everything else..

I see that aspect of digital calipers a huge plus, that is not having a rack/gear. My only thing is I just personally like the feel a little better of the old style. I should order a couple pair of the digital ones.
I may seem like a hard one (keeping it clean, but you could get creative) to work with but I have certain things I like followed in the shop. All things that someone has shown or taught me along the way. Thaings that just made perfectly good sense.
Example; the other day Creed posted a picture of a chuck and taper that pulled out of the tail stock. Always leave something in there so it stays clean, and wipe the tapers off before you jarb a tool in there. Once that taper hole is all buggered up, you lose holding power.
    I feel like I'm ranting away now..sorry:rofl:

6013 welding rods will weld through rust, dirt, paint, etc. but it won't be rusty after welding. I may put a little salt water on these to speed it up

I’ve got two sets of Mitutoyo’s, just replaced the 6” ones (getting wore out) with some Starrett’s. The 4” ones I bought from a guy for $20
