I’m not positive because I haven’t made it to a meeting, they’ve only had one this year I couldn’t make. But she is like the most outspoken in the socials, and I went to a group ride a couple weeks ago and she was a leader of one of the groups. I just know that she’s very well “accepted” as an important member it seems.

ahh the only solution is obviously a coup...haha but really it's been more difficult to be involved in groups this past year but getting more involved is the best solution for more reasons than this one haha

 

I agree. especially on the coup part. haha. No but seriously, getting more involved is probably the best solution. Or at least having more people involved in opening/closing trails. my area has like 1 or 2 guys who are always up at 4 int he morning and check the trails for everyone during the shoudler season and after major rain. and they've actually been entrusted to actuallyc lose/open the trails. Good guys and they deserve medals for their efforts.

 

No doubt. And I haven’t been able to make it to an organized trail workday for some of the same reasons. I pay for a membership though so I consider that my contribution at a minimum even if I can’t make a work day. I just know if I caused too much commotion they’d be like “never saw you at a work day”

 

Tough spot to be in. But also first world problem to be in. But also, glad you're being considerate and smart. the world needs tons more people like you.

There are definitely some great people in these organizations. One of my friends broke his back and took on a lot of trail work as "recovery" I was like what....

Pretty much haha, I can definitely see the frustration. I saw someone post about this the other day. Like how mountain biking is one of the only sports where volunteering is a thing and it's not even for single use facilities. Unfortunately money isn't the only thing that speaks in this arena haha

 

cant you submit trail status on trail forks? so if you want to ride just submit good conditions on trail forks?

Man, mid April will be busy. Seclusion might be hard to find. Great advice so far. Small pieces of advice for general desert camping:
Definitely learn about the soil there and how important it is to keep it from becoming a wasteland.
Many places to camp. Watch the weather as wind and rain can turn any experience into a freaking nightmare.
Don’t pitch a tent in a wash, it can turn into a River at the slightest rain.
Keep your shoes, hats and clothes in your tent our car at night, and always keep it zipped. Scorpions and black widows love warm and dark places.
Lots of sand and rock mean tent stakes may not work.
Bring twice as much water as you think you need.
Don’t gather wood, bring it in and use a portable pit if you can.
Sunshine in the desert makes it feel at least 15 degrees warmer. Clouds and wind, 15 cooler. Mid April can bring weather that can feel like winter, and over a hundred degrees, in one day.
Sand will get into everything. I mean everything.
Clean your drivetrain before each ride.
Respect and appreciate the silence and darkness. It’s beautiful. And don’t forget to go for a hike, some of the most amazing places are foot access only. Great recovery activity.

Got a ride in before the rain today, trails were good, but man they were seriously eroded from the bad weather we’ve been having lately. I mean we’ve had like 7 inches of rain in the last 2 weeks, tornados, and hail. Yay spring.

but it was my maiden voyage with my new poc knee pads. They were great! While riding I didn’t notice or think about them at all. When I would stop I would remember them and think they’d need adjusted but they didn’t. Weren’t overly hot, stayed put, and were pretty dang comfy. I’d recommend em.

 

That would be pretty sweet. I’ll see what’s up around then haha

 

Which knee pads did you get? I need pads for hot weather enduros and saw poc on REI https://www.rei.com/product/113780/poc-joint-vpd-20-knee-pads and thought they were a bit expensive. But i'm willing to pay for quality bc my fox gear always needs to be stitched.

 

I got the vpd air. Enough protection for anything I’ve been through so far, and cool enough for my hot as balls weather lol

 

Reviews look good. I'll order them. My knees are banged up and I need pads that are comfortable to wear so i'm more likely to wear them..

 

I got the XL and I fit right in their measurement table. I’ll say they felt a little big upon first putting on but they stayed put and were comfy.

 

As a follow-up, went with MagikSC and here is the finished product. Sub $100 and very high quality. I just sucked at installing it
