Keep in mind that bigger tires will change the mileage odometer just like it will for speed.

Itll show less mileage driven. If I understand correctly.. not a ton, but less.

As mentioned already, it is about time for the switch from the crappy winter fuel so MPG should be going up.

Short, one time trips don't tell you much. I've gotten 4 mpg and 40 mpg over short distances. 4 mpg using the truck as a motorized wheelbarrow moving firewood or hauling hay on a farm, 40 mpg coasting down mountains.

In 2016 we drove the Tacoma to the Grand Canyon from GA. We came in from the south crossing OK TX and NM. After the Grand Canyon we went north into Utah and then back across CO, KS and MO to get back to GA. I averaged exactly 20mpg for the almost 5000 mile round trip but saw 22 mpg and 16 mpg on the same day, on the same road on the way home. Filled up somewhere in Utah and got 22 between there and Denver on I-70. You burn gas going up, but being able to coast 30 miles on the way down more than makes up for it.

From Denver to KC I hit a steady headwind and got 16 mpg over that leg. Between KC and home I went back to 20-21 mpg.

I made a run from Clearwater down to Naples for a golf trip with relatives. Topped off before I left. Photo was taken about 100 miles into the trip.

The same is happening with mine. I generally drive the same routes. After hitting 3000miles I have noticed my mpg going up about 2 to 3 miles, this with basically the same driving habits. The transmission is shifting smoothly on the hills and curves on the road too.

Speeds make quite a big difference in my Tacoma over other vehicles Ive owned it seems. The difference between driving at 50mph vs 65 seems to be 3-5mpg and it seems to only drop off faster the faster I drive. Interstate at 75mph is much much worse than 50mph county roads. I never noticed it so pronounced with my past vehicles.

Yeah, I think also there is that MPH point where things change a lot. The local blacktop around home is all 50-55 MPH. Get better-than-what-Toyota-says-I-should-get MPG. If I hit the interstate 60-65-70 MPH (Depending on what section I'm on) I lose 3-4 MPG.

LOL! I know a guy who has a Smart Car. He says that even that gets more respect than a Prius.

stop wasting your money. 86 and even 85 are the low grade at the pump at higher elevations because the air is less dense and with less oxygen in it to burn, you don’t need the higher octane.

If the truck starts to knock or anything, then you know the 86 is too low or youhave gone down in elevation too much from where you bought it.
