My trucks been on jack stands, amputated of the front drive axles for two days.
I love (hate) being in this position.

Next I need to find a nice front bumper or hidden winch mount, and get rid of the stock rear bumper. Problem is, the prices are ridiculous.

I have a MIG. All I have to do is fire it up, if I bought a kit. I procrastinate (because my left hand is lame) more than I do things.

    Hi...
Has anyone measured how much is the wheel travel with these CVs? On stock arms or long travel?

@Kwikvette has an interesting update on these axles I'll let him share the details on...

but has anyone else experienced the boots tearing off at the clamp on these? With no greasy mess?

When installing these axles, what do you hit to drive them in a seat the C clip? They don't have the lip like the OEM's have? I'm probably missing something obvious, but this is the first time I've done this and I don't want to screw it up! Also, the 40mm socket I bought doesn't fit the 40mm nut on the outboard end of the CV axel, so I'll be reusing the OEM 35mm. Any problems with that?

Some aftermarket parts store axles don't have the indentations on them to drive the axle in either, but you do still need to drive it in past the c-clip. I thread the nut onto the end and then use a mallet to knock it in

Make sure to put the axle nut on the end though, if you mess up the threads you won't be able to use the axle.

Lol did you really post my picture as your own?

I just pushed the cv axle in by hand, and gently tapped the end to ensure it was seated. Nothing different than an OEM cv axle.

Didn't say it was my picture. Just wanted an example of the fact that there is no lip to hit to drive the axle in like I used to remove it. Didn't see the point in taking another picture of it when this was readily available. Also wanted your attention since you have already installed these. Thanks for the help!

    So the update -

I'm not a rock crawler by any means, but I do frequent the road less traveled often whether it's rock, snow, mud, etc.

With that being said, since getting these axles on I've driven 1200 miles per month as I leave town 4 times a month. That's been going on since installing these months ago...

Well, my boots have been torn for god knows how long -

    20210517_140548.jpg

    20210517_140555.jpg

As you can see, there is no grease of any type anywhere. I know when the boots on my old cv axles tore, I had grease absolutely everywhere -

    20210105_113931.jpg

    20201031_171800.jpg

I don't know if it's the unique design, or it's just sealed up much higher, but these cv axles are performing as they have brand new with no ill effects.

I have no strange noise, and they don't act any differently than when I first installed them.

As stated, I just tapped the end of the cv axle.

I do recall pushing one of them in by hand? Doesn't take much force to seat a cv axle.

So once you get them installed, how do you get them back out if needed? Again, nothing to strike to pop them out and it looks like the seal would be damaged if I use a pry bar. Just pulling doesn't seem like it would be enough. I don't need them out right now, but it would be nice to know the technique since they are different. Has anyone had to reboot these yet?

You can use a pry bar between the axle housing and the front diff. The seal is far enough in that you won't damage it, especially because you're leveraging the pry bar away from it. That's usually how I always get the axles out, OEM or not.
