Been working on v1 of the truck bed bike slide. It's more like v1.5 now with a few minor tweaks, but I didn't take any more recent pictures.

That thing is slick! Let me know how it goes, I might want to do something like that under a soft topper. I was actually coming back into this thread to ask about something similar...

DAMN I spent I think close to 950 on my Giant road bike, I know bikes are expensive but at a certain point - diminishing returns, am I willing to spend an extra 2 grand for an oz of weight savings? Me? No - I'll just not eat the extra donut I'm overweight enough that bike weight savings are an oxymoron - not worth it for me.






ANYWAY point I'm here - I have a 27.5 full squish. I just got a soft topper and the plan is to keep it under the soft topper when going on trips (IE Up to northeast kingdom or Knoxville) and sleep in the cab (that part is already sorted). But, I am reminded now that I have another soft topper - they're annoying and bulky and I hate full caps worth it, and I like it, BUT .....

I'm wondering if anyone has done a slide or other "easy" way to get a bike (MTB, 29 or 27.5, or a BMX bike.... ) under a tri-fold tonneau aside from the obvious "take off the wheel and pedal and just lay it on its side". Not that there's anything wrong with that, just curious if there's someone that made a slide or something for that.

I have the soft topper and will use it unless and until I find a good way to work with a tonneau instead. I would also be keeping a cooler (ozark trail 26qt) and general storage bins in there. Realistically in the bed I would want to be able to stash the bike, the cooler, and 1-2 bins this size:


In the meantime - I am going to set up a fork mount and just put the bike upright in the soft topper, there's plenty of room with that thing. I just don't want to cover my rear glass all the time like that I like seeing out the back/having the rear slider

i think your bar width would be a limiting factor to putting your bike under a cover. fork travel would have some impact, but not as much as bar width.

then you would have to factor the height of whatever slide you use.

 

Just joined the mountain bike club. Always wanted one but didn’t want to spend the money. Finally pulled the trigger on a used 2017 Santa Cruz Bronson CC X01 with Reserve carbon wheels

Hmm - I was planning to take the front wheel off regularly and lay the bars flat, but they would still extend out the back. I have a 27.5 though so it's a bit smaller than a big boy bike

Once I get out there and start riding more I will experiment with laying it flat and see what I can pull off - in the meantime, I have the topper so it's not like it's an urgent need in order to get out there. I was planning on using the topper. I just need to get better at folding it up to have my bed back I guess.

Nice! I'm on 27.5 - I'm coming from the BMX world, the smaller wheels and tighter geometry are more my speed than a 29er trail dozer. I just got mine (used, GT verb) in November right before the worst of the cold and snow hit I'll probably try to get out on it a lot in the next few weeks now that we're warming up a bit - and desperately trying to be not obese

 

Nice, I’m also coming from BMX! I wanted something with 27.5" wheels for the same reasons. I figured it might feel a little more familiar.

Same here . I destroyed my gravel frame back in November and have gained about 20lbs since haha. Hoping this helps!

Yeah 80/20 & Tnutz. I found that 90% of the battle when working with that stuff is just faffing around with all the ways to connect it together though, so a parts list might be more useful than it seems on the surface.
