Both are Stock - built correct from the start.

Here’s another example of Tacoma towing. We’re getting ready to head out in a couple weeks again, across country. The rig has been sitting a bit so I took her out on a shakedown couple hour road trip. I didn’t bother hooking up sway control and I don’t use a WDH. I tow in “S” per manual. I do have a Wheelers 1.5 in AAL. Trailer books at 3060 dry, though I’ve never actually weighed her. Consistent Florida I75 mpg. I don’t faster than 65 since trailer tires are rated to 65 mpg.

Looking good. Ill be doing this next month. I'm also looking at about 3500 Lbs dry. I'm curious how does the power feel with that load? Are you still comfortable with braking and the sort?

I’m in flat Florida so it’s fine now. I rented a Coachmen Nano 187, same weight, last summer for a couple weeks pulling through mountains in north Georgia. The truck worked hard. I’d definitely not go any bigger. The trailers all have their own brakes, which I hope never fails.
My recommendation is to set your truck up for towing, then rent. Much cheaper than to buy and it not work out.

Yes, we plan on renting once possibly twice a year at most. Just something enough for 4 people.

Doesn't your manual specify the use of a WDH with the weight of that camper?

Are you saying you don't need a weight distribution hitch unless you are towing 5k#?

I’m not saying it, the manual states a requirement for wdh for 5000#+.

You might have been thinking of sway control:

This manual is for a 3g. Yours might have different instructions. :)

Thanks I appreciate it. I thought both the 4runner and Tacoma (all years) recommended weight distribution and sway control at 3k#.

No. I haven’t weighed it yet, but it books at 3068 dry. We travel lite so probably on the road at 3500. WDH is recommended at 5k plus. And 2k for sway. I do have a sway device. Just didn’t use it for this short run. No WDH yet. I’ve towed about 12,000 miles like this, no problems. I have a Fastway E2 WDH and plan to set it up this week.

You are racking up the miles. I towed an rpod almost exactly like your satellite for a couple years. The only time I felt like I needed the hitch was when semis would pass.
