What DIY ceramic coating do you use? What do you think of this one?

This is what I'm talking about I just bought their new ceramic wet wax guess after you wash your truck you apply the wet wax and dry truck completely that's it .

 

Apply to wet truck then dry as you go

the new ceramic is nice but all the testing I have seen done the seal n shine still are a bit more durable. Both are better than most of the expensive ones out there for 1/3 the price. I just bought another bottle of Seal n shine new formula today. Use to make fun of TW but now they have really stepped up and made some quality products

 

Yep. I like this product. I've started using it and have been really pleased with the results. Also, it's pretty darn simple to apply.

 

I'm not a detail guy, only that the dealer had my truck 2 days for its glass coat....said first it needed to be clay bared, and look for the need of any touchups before they could begin the process.

 

This. That's why i'm confused. Local go-to ceramic place needs my truck for a couple days. all the products in here seem to basically "wipe and go." Not sure how something you can spray on and wipe off, can offer the same protection that a pro takes two days to do. Not being an ass, just really dont know. I used to use Zaino bros wax, and waxed my truck twice a year. now, i want to opt for ceramic, just have so many questions.

I have a long way to go but since you mentioned that you are new to detailing as well (I am at best a novice!), you might find this very helpful. Dude is crazy. I mean he has a passion for detailing that is on a whole different level. But I learned a lot that I can take away. Probably need to watch it again and take some notes. Let me know what you think ... I didn't buy any of his products but sure appreciated his knowledge and enthusiasm.

 

true ceramic coatings like Gtechiq CLS, EXO Cquartz and such. They all need a Minimum 12hr cure time sitting inside best and no chance of getting wet then it can be taken out into the rain and whatever. Then you cannot wash it for 7days so it can fully harden. you dont want to use chemicals on it. After that its good to go.
Most of these spray on ones dont have cure times. Turtle wax doesnt have any cure times. I am not sure if the last coat does or not.

Also if anyone is wondering about the wipe down before a coating. a good DIY recipe I use is 1 part Acetone and 3 parts original windex. So you just need to hit target or walmart to get that stuff
So you can make alot for about 5bucks vs name brand panel wipes can cost around $15 for 16oz

 

Graphene is a phenomenal product just like everything else 303 sells. I am biased though, my high school buddy and fraternity brother is the VP of Marketing for Gold Eagle/303.

 

I used the CQuartz UK 3.0. I was scared but it’s wasn’t bad. The two days comes from all the prep if you want to do it right. Took me a full weekend. Wash and dry, treat the truck with iron x. Then clay, then I did meguires m205 to get rid of any swirls. Then tape up anything you don’t want to get coated. Then clean with iso alcohol. Then apply ceramic, then remove. Just takes forever. But once it’s done, it should last. It’s always that first clean that takes the longest.
I had my truck looking perfect and was camping at night and backed into a bush. Added some nice marks to my perfect tailgate. I think the ceramic actually protected it a bit. Who knows. Hit it with some ultimate compound and will reseal it.

 

another tip if anyone wants to polish.
I use to do all the taping up and half that time that took almost as long as polishing the car.
I moved over to using Optimum Hyper Polish and compound. You do not need to tape any trim and can actually use it to clean the trim. Now I can skip the taping and not have to even be careful around trim so it makes it that much easier polishing and faster.

Im also looking at the TW but cant decide between the wax and shine or the hybrid. I only want to do it once a year.

 

they might be good but not going to last a year. I dont get why it wouold be hard to just use say Turtle wax Seal n shine as you dry your truck. Literally takes no extra time and you just added more protection. Or do you only wash it once a year

 

My thing is overdo everything. i'm too picky and too type A so when i start a project, no matter how simple, it takes me forever because i focus on the details.

 

there is nothing to overdo. You spray a panel with 1 spritz as you dry and move to the next. Nothing else to do

 

For the money, that Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray is a winner.
