Flying United out of Lindbergh Field today and we had to abort the takeoff, rear emergency exit wasn’t properly latched and the indicator lit up as we were rolling.
It was my first abort and it was definitely a weird feeling.

I have seen the value change with headwinds/tailwinds. There’s a line that reads lb/nm through the air and another line for lb/nm over the ground. We don’t have speed profiles for our work, it’s always as fast as possible. We’ve done eco cruise two times in the past two years due to headwinds

Gorgeous sunset at LIT last night. I love my job. Doesn’t even feel like work.

Did some formation practice the other day. I was lead, my safety pilot took this pic of a 172 formed up on my right side. So fun!

What did you have a safety pilot for? Doing some hood?

Making sure nobody crashed! This was a formation training flight for some newbies. He can watch the two others while I focus on maintaining heading and altitude

I saw that your orange and blue overlords just put an order in for a metric shit-ton of MAXs. Excited at the possibility of getting into one of those fancy-schmancy machines?

Orange & blue overlords indeed did order a lot of MAX's. It'll be 7/8's coming off the assembly line.

    Here's a MAX-8.

    Am I excited? I’m neutral.

I have about 50 hours in the MAX before it was grounded. I love that it’s quiet and smooth like a modern luxury car. But, overall I feel like it’s a tool to be used. I don’t have much excitement towards it other than I expect it should work well since most of the MAX’s are brand new and it’s the most scrutinized airplane in aviation history.

Is it quieter in the cockpit? I’ve always heard that the 737 has a ton of wind noise, but do the new engines make a difference?

Engines are much quieter. Recirc fans are, or at least seem quieter. I'd say the wind noise is unchanged. Still those same flat glass windscreens. Altogether though, it's a noticeably quieter, more civilized flight deck.

Edit: to add that it's still the same front profile as the 707. The only thing that helps with the wind noise is the vortex generators that they put on the nose at the base of the windshield.

Did they sound insulate the flight deck bulkhead? Or do you still hear the screaming passengers?.

    Too soon? :crapstorm:

I was too well trained to fly the airplane to ever have to find out. First world problems.

Good to hear. I knew the windows hadn’t been changed but wasn’t sure how much engine noise you can hear up there. My dad always told me that I would be surprised by the noise in the cockpit of the 737. He never flew a Max so he wasn’t able to give me a report on them

Like @Bushed said, it is noticeably quieter from the engine noise and wind vortex generators.

The one part of the 737 that always surprised me of how loud it is....the noise that the nose wheel makes as it spins down in the wheel-well when you raise the landing gear. Some of the older NG models, and definitely the Classics, have a super loud spin down.

    87 fuel added as needed.
Finally got my Long XC in for IRA training...two more flights then checkride. Back to the books so I don't get hosed in the oral! KIND-KMZZ-KGYY-KIND. Got a decend-via in our little DA40...kinda funny.
