    Update on a day in the life of my
    2018 OR:

    Ok. It’s been an exciting day that started fairly routinely with a request to Kreg that he customize an LT tune for me. He was good enough to send me a couple of versions for testing and on the third iteration I hit a snag, flashing, using the new flash tool. Half way through the flash it stopped (reason unknown) and I was not able to get it going again or start the truck. Kreg fixed it by having me clr DTC then flash using the old flash tool. That was exciting for sure (pucker factor).

    What I wanted was the customized LT tune (ported over from the customized reg tune) which needed a throttle adjustment in 3rd gear. Kreg worked on that and by the third version it was perfect. The lower 4 gears work as I envisioned for driving around town (up to about 73kph) and gear 5 takes it up to 97kph or so then 6 can kick in. Gears are holding better than previous tunes, tip-in is perfect for my taste, mpg ~20, and trans temps normal. Many more parameters to test out but I ran out of time. I also don’t expect to find any problems with those parameters as I go forward.

    edit: no bogging in any gear. Very peppy.

    My tune now is a customized MDMax-reg-6.0-LT and the best one so far to be flashed to my 04A61. Many thanks to @PapaRee for writing the tunes and customizing to my requests. And for helping me get out of a situation that was no fault of the MDMax tune file.

    Each of our trucks is different and K&DTuning will work with us until we’re happy with the product.

    Is there a thread that would walk me through the tuning process from start to finish, if I were to just go ahead and buy the cable/ software and then buy this specific tune so I could do it myself? I'm a little confused about things like that the file is locked as stated in the OP (assuming that means it can't be copied or is specific to each truck).

    How much of a performance hit is there reg/premium? My understanding is the reg will octane learn starting with 87 octane timing tables so I’m assuming reg vs premium on the same octane are pretty similar?

    After you buy the VFtuner Software Kit with the cable, you can use the instructions to flash my tune. It is locked from editing, but can be flashed to the truck.

    Yes. Performance is very similar. I run a Regular tune but use Premium octane. The tunes are Octane learning.
    You can run Premium on a Regular tune, but shouldn't run Regular on a Premium tune.

    It being locked just means you’re unable to edit the files or open the file to see changes but can still flash it. There are some other good threads with FAQ’s like the vftune auto thread. Also, I strongly disagree with your username :rofl:

    Just curious, I am still running the Kruiser 4.0, is passing on the highway still a dance from 4th at 3k from 5th at 2k or is that smoothed out now? That is really my only gripe with the truck.
