Excellent choice for the zombie apocalypse as it can be used as a bat style weapon and also a walking stick should you roll an ankle

I carry it while walking my small dog after dark. Our neighborhood has a roving gang of coyotes, who like to munch on pets. I have nicknamed the light "Coyote Crusher". I also carry the "Coyote Ventilator", but this isn't the correct thread to describe that tool.

Tell me about the small lantern on the right please. At least enough to research it and your satisfaction with it.

Considering some emergency lighting if we are w/o power for a period of time.

Not looking to light a stadium or bring down small aircraft, just create some decent visibility in the house, maybe enough to read by.

Like @SilverBulletII 6D mag-light. Bought this before led was around. Changed the bulb to an led but not the same as today’s led flashlights. Does work good but D batteries aren’t cheap.

I keep one of these in the camper and on the boat. Bought them on line but wouldn’t recommend them. They are ok for a boat. You get what you pay for.

This was given to me by my father many years ago. Non led. Probably nice back in the day but it’s a piece of crap.

Here’s my go to light for the back yard at night. Little big but lights up the yard very well.

Someday I’m going to breakdown and buy a battery for this one. This was my grandfather’s and I remember as a kid this was a spot light that left a beam in the sky.

There are two lanterns in the picture but one was kind of hidden.

Left: Costco 650 Lumen Lithium Ion batteries.
    Right: 1250 Lumen 4 D cells.

Both are very bright but have multiple levels of brightness. They have each lasted multiple nights with the frequent blackouts in Southern California last year. The HF one is still on it's original set of batteries. I'm not sure how many hours so far but it is way more than expected.

The Costco one can be recharged so that's more my style. I bought the HF one with a super coupon a few years ago so it was almost free.

EDIT: I will add that in those two photos I did not change the lighting in the room. The lights were bright enough to alter it.

Look like a Maglite. If so, have you thought about doing a LED conversion?

Malkoff Devices makes some nice kits for Maglite. Plus crowned bezels and other accessories.

No I didn’t because I did one for the big mag-lite and it is brighter but no way near as bright as some of the newer led lights. I will have to look into Malkoff.

Don’t remember where I got this one. Probably tractor supply. I keep this one in the truck but will be upgrading soon.

I have used a 4 cell Maglite to defend our 2 beagles and the wife from aggressive dogs before. Worked well, a little bop on the nose and the aggressive dog immediately went the other way and left us alone.

You have to factor in the cost of the LED kits/drop-in for the Maglite to see if it is worth it over buying a modern LED Maglite. The new LED Maglite may have higher lumens output.

Careful, Coyotes are no pushovers, that’s a wild K9 that’s been on this continent for tens of thousands of years. They know how to kill.

The Eastern Coyote is especially capable. Genetic testing has shown they are 60% Western Coyote, 20% domestic dog, and 20% wolf. Pack animals, which work as a team.

The coyotes are beautiful animals. I have no intention of harming them. My focus is primary to keep them away from me and my dog. Any action taken against coyotes would be in self-defense.

The main function of the flashlight is to have its beam keep the coyotes away; and, so far so good. Any other use of the 6 D cell light would be self-defense, as part of Plan B. Here's the rest of Plan B:

Good that you have the rest of plan B there, they won't kill you, but they'll bite the crap out of you to get your dogs.

I think only the poster sees their own in that format.

Have to admit it was a real early morning head scratcher.

    Happy April 1.
