This was first 4x4 purchase for me in 1991. It was a solid AZ truck and semi-restored. I traded it end of 1993 when I bought first ever new vehicle 1/2 ton Silverado short box reg.cab. that old chevy was a beast, 3/4 ton and 4speed. Drum brakes all around. Light metal flake blue.

The problem with these doors is they’re 1/2” too short. I would have to cut them in the middle of the holes and add the 1/2” if we go that route to match the frame. It’s already drilled and ready to weld too. May be easier to start from scratch.

I talked the boss into ordering more material, it'll be easier in the long run.

Shear a shim plate to weld in between the joint of the miter to make up the difference?

I could cut them and add 1/2" but by the time I cut them, weld them, and grind all 8 it'll be about the same as making them over. Plus trying to keep them straight and this is a new customer, our first job for them. If it was one or two pieces it wouldn't be bad.

I’m talking about adding a roughly 3/16” or 7 gauge (.179”) plate inside the miter joint on both ends, this would move the upper and lower tube 1/4” each end.
    See my cad math...

I’ve put the holes in both pieces already for the hinges. The bottom ones are 1/2” high. Would have to weld them and redo them and add it all to one end :pout:

I gotcha, so the hole patterns in relation to the end would be off, I was hopeful the pattern was located off the center.
At least you might be able to use the drop from this job on another project. :pout:
(As you can tell, I’m used to trying to come up with “Apollo 13” style solutions for damage control, lol)

I get it, we have this material and it could be salvaged if I had too
