For any of you guys on the fence about this. Do it. Thank yourself and me later. Also, don’t be an idiot and mess up the install. Pay attention to his clear details and instructions. But when you do mess up and your shit is busted he will call and walk you through it. @mightytacoman is a solid dude.

as for the performance... honestly I did multiple items at once, my mid range throttle response is unreal now compared to before.

(If you're on the fence......let me push you off towards Kel's side)

    My $.02 regarding @mightytacoman -3 deg cam gears/sprockets.

Got them installed by @greenEFSI over the weekend. Since then, I've logged about 300+ highway and +50 miles city driving. My initial impressions that have stuck out:

    1. Idle is smoother/quieter. At WOT, the exhaust tone did change as there's a slight buzz at the upper RPM range. The buzz is not annoying and doesn't happen unless the pedals to the metal.

    2. Deacceleration: the truck is much more "coast-happy. Once I lift off the throttle, thetruck feels like it coasts much easier and doesn't decelerate as rapidly. It's so noticeably different, that I thought I had cruise control on.

    3. MPG on a modded supercharged 4.0L 1GRFE:
    ~12mpg before cam gear (80/20 city/highway)
~13.2 mpg before cam gear (100% highway)
~14.3 mpg AFTER cam gear (100% highway)

I'm waiting to see fuel efficiency (post gears) with (80/20) mixed driving. Need to put miles on and cycle a few tanks of gas.

    4. Any +HP? Butt-dyno reports positive results. But will strap it to the rollers soon.....

I can attest to this, with an otherwise we'll operating engine you will achieve 14.3 mpg if supercharged. If you are NA you will likely net a little higher. Maybe 16 or 17 mpg? Hard to say, too many variables here.

For sure. I'm aiming for next month. I'm a "proof is in the pudding" type of guy that likes tangible answers and data on paper. Baseline has been established already.

Ouch... I hear tails of bad mileage but don't understand what people expect when they add heavy steal plates, yuug heavy tires, racks, bumpers, and other draggy stuff.

Hell I've been told my trucks a racecar compared to other people's trucks. I just don't get it.

*before cam gears, haven't had enough fillup to talk about real gainz after.

I havent been in a rush, but I also dont drive the truck everyday anymore. Its more of a weekend toy, so thats ok for the gas that I pay. Im sure the gears will help though

I averaged 16-17mpg combined driving for 3-4 tanks of fuel (I stopped logging) after the gears and hp tune, before that it was around 13-14mpg combined. The truck is mostly stock bodied with the exception of some armor.

Is there anyone on here in the Portland area that has access to a Dyno? We can use my truck as a test subject. My engine is stock. I'm going to do the gears in the next couple weeks when I have the time. Happy to wait a little bit if that means getting a baseline dyno and a second after install.

@hx989 we have another that's on the hook for dyno verification. :D

@gpdx. Here are a couple places but I can't vouch for them since I'm not from Portland.

My gamble is that we will see the torque curve move lower towards the daily driving rpms. Looking forward to this

Except you probably won't see it since dynos with our autos suck (can't lock in 1:1) and even with a manual valid data is probably 3500rpm and greater.

I don’t need the validation of a dyno to justify my install. Improved mpg is enough for me. Plus a better drive feeling, whether placebo or not.
Seems to be a few people that want that proof so I thought I’d offer it. It would be dependent on someone having access to one that’s invested in this. I’m probably not going to front the money to a prove a point to a couple haters that this is an improvement.
