I just did the fronts 6x9. honestly sounds worst than stock. I did one side only at first and that use balance to hear. zero difference. hoping the amp will fix this problem.

Have not yet. I just can’t justify $100 for a tiny ass tweeter. trying to do practical and tasteful mods one at a time. when I do decide, I may try some crutchfield tweeters before I try subaaru. I actually have a subaru premium so I may swap it to test. lol

 

please don’t waste your money. did anyone bother to test their factory ugly speakers? it’s not that bad when powered by amp!!

How much is an amp?

 

4 channel on FB or offer up. $100 for name brand. or buy a new one for around $250. power is the issue and ability to fader fader gain adjust to balance the rear.

 

Fyi, you need to do sound deadening when you swap out the OEM speakers. The new speakers can take more power but they need the insulation separation to reflect their capability to handle more power.

 

Any speaker replacement will be an improvement to the crap $5 speakers Toyota puts in our Tacos.

 

yeah i am convinced ppl just like to buy mods.. bought 60 square feet of kilmat.. doesn't do crap.. the only way to tell is use a DB meter.

 

I have insulated the metal door panels and the plastic door covers. This has improved acoustics greatly and reduced road noise as well.

lol, you crack me up! I do get what you're saying though and I believe it's quite subjective depending on ones ears. I've got hearing aids myself

 

give it some time. Seems to me that speakers sound better after some time, a break in period. Mine sure did.

 

Question. If someone's 90% sure they have a premium HU. Where would one confirm that. I know it's not JBL and its not the base HU either. Don't know how to tell difference between middle two tiers.

 

Do u still have the window sticker from when the car was sold new, it’ll be on there? If not maybe put you vin in the link below. I’m not sure what info it’ll give you, my car is Hawaiian so the vin check doesn’t work...

Thanks. I’ve got the premium non jbl 2.0. My plan is to just swap doors and tweets with some budget sound deadening and hopefully that’ll be good for now. An amp wired to the doors and tweets would be nice but I’m not great with wiring and I want anything on this truck done properly so I’d pay someone to do it if I went with an amp which wouldn’t be the most budget friendly. Also if anyone upgrades door speakers and tweeters from an already upgraded over factory system I’ll be looking to buy some used if I can snag a decent deal.

 

I think you'll be happy with just replacing the speakers. I was, no regrets. For the Premium HU, it makes a big deference.
