It's not even bike marketing - it feels to me like Arkansas marketing trying desperately to get people to move there and do something anything anywhere for their state. So they find something, anything, they can work with. Mountain bikes - they dedicated themselves as the mountain bike capitol of the world, marketed the piss out of it, paid others to market it, etc.

They're still desperate to get people to move there.

I would add walmart to that equation. The walton family is putting a lot of money into the area, with mountain biking being a big selling point.

    Because.... V V V V

Yup! They're running a promotion "move to Bentonville and get a free MTB!" which is almost guaranteed from wally world and a POS, but hey, it's a thing :notsure: They need people. They started as a boonieville store, in the middle of nowhere, in Arkansas. They became a massive thing and now they're still stuck in boonieville and need to get people there. Young people like mountain bikes, right? Let's get some young blood out here to slave work for us.

I forget the promo details but Walmart owns Viathon bikes which are comparable to most of the existing mtb market.

fair - they’ve stepped up their game as of late. But just because they’re owned by Walmart doesn’t mean they’re sold at the brick and mortar stores. Those 150$ bikes are still garbage and that’s most likely what you’ll get for moving there.

    here’s this:
    https://www.bicycling.com/culture/a34738872/northwest-arkansas-life-works-here-moving-initiative-bike/

apparently it’s a 600$ credit at a LBS. I’m actually way more on board with that now. Still looks to be fueled by Wally World, shockingly.

The WT light action remote is light years better than any other remote I’ve used. Love mine.

Sweet, that’s good to hear. I have a PNW loam I’ll give my brother or fiancé. No complaints about it.

was going to buy wolftooths elliptical chain ring, but couldn’t find one to work with my superboost.

Can I join the party? Megatower shimano xt brakes/12 speed, lyrik ultimate, we are one with i9 hubs. Bike almost gets more mileage than the truck does these days. E23FA3F8-DCEC-439B-A7D8-9EEFA50F194B.jpg

I’d be interested to hear how it compares to the PNW loam.

Interesting. I didn’t know there were any compatibility issues between boost/SB for rings. I moved an absolute black oval from a boost crank to a SB crank and didn’t notice any chainline or shifting issues.

I rode Bentonville's Slaughterpen trail system last year. It was rad. Not sure why anyone would hate on any town that adds more new trail per week than most towns on this planet will add in years, or ever. Why hate on a town that is pushing breweries and cycling as its biggest draw? What's not to like about that? Is having more destinations and options a bad thing? I don't get it... o_O

    not enough.
I think it's not so much the trails but it feels like there's a ton more marketing for it these days. Gnar Couch is also based in Utah and more Utah focused than anything else so of course they put Bentonville down there. I hear Arkansas has awesome riding and I'm really proud that they're leading that charge and showing that adding trails is alwaysa. good thing. But haters are gonna hate. haah.

With 20 bikes, spring brings the maintenance season........2017 Stache 7 got new WTB Ranger 3.0s/rim tape/sealant, box o upgrade parts (IVA air spring & whatnot) for the Manitou Magnum fork, new PC-1130 chain and lastly will be getting new pads/rotors/fluid bleed when those parts arrive. Brake bleed long overdue.

Also, my actual road bike got some new Panaracer Ribmo 700x25s since the 10yr old tires on it were cracking last time I cleared off cobwebs and aired them up.

Because there's F - all there. Will be interesting to see the next several years with it though. I'm sure it's a cool place to visit, but living there ... I question if I would want to actually move in.

The Gnar Couch isn't hating on the trails in Bentonville. It is probably just poking fun at the town's self anointed titled as the "mountain bike capital of the U.S."

Bentonville will never overcome its lack of elevation and raw beauty that the other locations on the cartoon/skit have. I plan on swinging in there soon on my move from Colorado to Alabama or at least in the fall for outerbike. I'm sure I will have a blast because there are trails and beer.
