Hey everyone, I am hoping you can help me out. I need to replace my idler pulley (P/N 16603-0P030) on my 07 V6. Does anyone have a .pdf (service direction, manual, etc) of how to do this? I will also need torque specs as well.

    Thanks

Never done mine but sure it's straight forward. I think there is just a center bolt to take out. The bottom pulley prob. needs to have the skid plate off. Torque specs for pulley #1 (bottom one by a/c compressor) = 40 ft/lbs.. The other 2 pulleys = 29 ft/lbs.

Great thanks, guess I will dive in and give her a try. The torque specs were the main thing I was unsure about.

No need to remove the skid. I've had my belt off several times now to replace pulleys, crank seal, etc without pulling the plate. Relieve the tension on the belt at the tensioner pulley. Slide the belt off the pulley in question and remove it by loosening the bolt that holds it in place.

I'd advise checking all the idlers for roughness. Only one of mine was making a whine but upon removing the belt, it was clear all of them were toasted.

I pressed the bearings out of the old pulleys and repacked them with grease - keeping them as spares. The bearing itself is not available for purchase from any shop - manufactured for Toyota only. A similar bearing with the same O.D is available but requires a shim/spacer to reduce the I.D to that of the OEM bearing.

For anyone looking to keep the Tacoma for the long haul and spends any amount of time off road, I recommend getting the Rock Auto pulleys. They come with the shim/spacer that I mentioned above, therefore allowing you to simply swap in a new $5 bearing when needed instead of a $80 pulley.

Nice, you happen to have a part number for Rock Auto? The one that I need to replace is a Toyotoa PN 16603-0P030. Thanks

The pulleys are manufactured by Gates, and sold at Rock Auto as well as Napa.

If I remember correctly, #36173 is the number for the two top idlers, and #36174 is the number for the lower idler. The major difference between the two is that the two top idlers only contain one bearing, the bottom idler contains two.

Not sure which idler that Toyota P/N you gave cross references to, but the info I gave above should be enough.

It is common for all three to crap out at the same time, so maybe buy all three while you are at the shop. You can always return them later if not needed - rather than having to disassemble everything a second time.

Depending on mileage and your frequency off road, it might be a good idea for a new belt, as well as to clean the grooves in your drive pulleys with some brake cleaner and an old toothbrush. The result is a very quiet engine.

Help! I have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma truck 4 cylinders - Automatic transamission

I need to replace the Upper Pulley, but behind it there is a long bolt, just don't know if is that what will loosen the tension of the belt?
or just remove the bolt that is in the center of the Pulley?

    Thanks

    good part numbers and info!!

bump this thread..awesome advice in here

    say, so its (2) #36173 pulleys and only (1) #36174 pulleys>?

    three in total--damm that's $126 bucks

//////edit: fair price for pulleys--at this point for a decent supercharger tune/up-keep I'm swapping out the pulleys, 4-5oz of oil AND a supercharger nosecone kit (link below). Might as well replace the easy stuff while everything is taken apart

    http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-8881 (nose kit)
    http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-8080 (SC oil change kit)

oh an the ripper long 'Super' belt that drives everything--gotta replace that as well
