    Never?!
Why not? We're not there yet and Maybe not in our lifetime but never?
There are already many cameras that can see better than us and computers that can calculate way faster.
I'd give it 30-50 years and we will be taken out of the equation like we are with air travel.
Computers already do most of the flying on commercial aircraft.

AND my 5 foot bed does all that it needs to do....

By rubbers, you mean a bed mat? Cause that’s the first mod to be done. Followed by the bed mat anti-theft mod.

Only if they force all vehicles to switch at once. Like they did in Sweden, when they switched from driving on the left hand side of the road to the right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagen_H

The elusive access cab short bed with the longer wheelbase. I thought it was just a myth.

I've gone pickup truck to SUV/trailer and prefer to not have to 'go get the trailer' to buy that impulse buy when a pickup will get the job done. Actually before buying the Tacoma a few months ago, I was on track to buy a new Bronco but:
    A) didn't want to wait until July 2021 at the earliest to get it
    B) The Bronco made the Tacoma price easier to accept
    C) I didn't want to stuck with having to plan taking the trailer with me, especially on longer trips

While it's a do-able solution based on YOUR specific situation, it wasn't for me at this point in my life.

^^^^ That is some of the logic I was using when I finally decided on the LB.

We went with the 6' bed + topper so we could carry bikes under cover with the front wheels removed, mainly so we didn't have to worry about them (as much) getting stolen on longer trips. Out of sight out of mind (?). Day to day we use a hitch mount carrier. We also do a lot of canoeing and backpacking so the other deciding factor was we could be more comfortable sleeping in the bed when we needed to, either boondocking or when getting into camp late.

Speaking of tents, long bed fits the right line bed tent perfectly.

my 6' bed can fit a pair of long, rockered skis lengthwise, without needing to put them in diagonally, like you would with the 5' bed. This leaves plenty of room for luggage and bags, coolers, etc, when I'm going on a weekend ski trip. It also means I don't have to stack bags on top of each other, which means I can close my tonneau cover, and my luggage won't get wet in the rain on my way up the snowy mountain for those super awesome, super frequent Pow Days we've been having (/s on the pow days, not the functionality of the bed).

The 6' bed has been much better for me. I have to carry firewood and having that extra does help. Also, camping, skis, snowboards, bikes, etc... all fit better. I do wish I had a short wheel base at times.

I hope you do understand that items like snowboards can be placed diagonally in the bed... there's no law that says they need to be placed exactly parallel to the bedside in a brolander rack.

..and if you can't fit your girl in the back of a 5' bed with a topper shell I feel bad for ya.

yea, but other stuff like bags and coolers all fit much better when there isn't something going diagonally across the bed.

I’m with you. I’ve had both a short bed and a long bed. Shit going diagonally across your bed is no Bueno. I use to swear at my short bed all the time because it was fuckin useless

yea, taking 3-5 people to mountains, the load become much more manageable when you can fit everyone's stuff in the bed, and close the tonneau, because the skis/boards don't have to be placed diagonally.
