This appears to be the same unit I see selling for $200, unless I'm mistaken? and there appears to be some even less expensive? What is the difference?

I'd be cautious with an item like this whose description contains so many spelling/translation errors. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

 

I'm sure you could buy it an use it for diagnosis purposes but if you want to use it with OV software to tune you have to buy his software/cable.

These are fake / clones made in china using a very old version of tactrix firmware which was ripped and cracked. They rarely ever last a few weeks and are well known to brick ECUs if you try to flash with them. Total junk.

 

Thank you for the replies. My assumption was at first, it was a real tactrix unit. Pretty bold to use another Co.'s name on the actual merchandise you cracked.

 

Mulling OVtune for my 17AT, the one thing concerning is the 1 laptop rule ( I do get it). Im tough on my laptop with work and all, and a F-ed up hard drive wipes out the software for good without buying it all over again? Is there a workaround from the developers in the pipeline to mitigate this issue?

 

That's all different now. There is a new Flash Tool that does not use the REG file.

That said, we were always allowed three installations, or System ID changes. It is the same now. You can install the vF software on three computers, registered against the Master Key which does not depend on the System ID.

Wow. The amount of low quality knock-off crap on Amazon is really concerning.

 

....and that they allow them to use the Co. name to advertise their knockoffs. I refuse to , but my buddy is a seller on Amazon and they make him jump through hoops constantly. He literally sells rockwool and gets returns for "defective" product and has to eat the shipping and returned goods more and more. Rockwool cannot be defective. If he werent in so deep he told me he wouldnt sell on their platform

 

Any genuine Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 cable will work, you don't have to buy it from OVTune. That said, I have only ever seen them sold directly from Tactrix, for MSRP. I have seen them sold elsewhere for above MSRP, sometimes with specific adapter/jumper connectors for specific vehicles. I don't see it for sale on OVTune site.

 

I thought Matt was selling a cable with license and credits at one point but it's just the software license with credits.

 

That is not correct. The $345 bundle comes with a vF License and a vF / Tactrix adapter:

In total now, it is about $20 or so less expensive than buying them separate.
