    What's everyone preferred tool for getting straight cuts? Working on 14 guage 1" steel right now and my 14" chop saw seems to deflect a lot. I didn't expect laser precision from this thing

    slooow down while cutting.
    Get your chop saw blade spinning, and gently bang it down on the material a few times. The cutting edge of those blades will get too smooth and this will help to rough it up, making it cut a bit better.
    Take this with a pinch of salt, im not saying to slam the blade into the material, that is obviously dangerous.
    Or, get a horizontal bandsaw.

    Put a little less pressure on the chop saw too, and like was mentioned, tap the piece starting out. This prevents the blade from flexing. It should be able to be straight within 1/16". Beyond that, a band saw is your next best bet.
