This is when I value the 6 foot bed. The trip to the big box store or lumber yard is so much easier.

I got a 6 foot bed and a go fast camper I need not worry about the problems of the lowly 5 foot bed. I bang my chick in style 6 feet above the ground atop my 6ft bed. But you do you my brethren. Keep jamming shit in your little truck bed sideways

Heavy items can be placed over, or ahead of the axle.

Simply more volume with the tail gate up. This comes in handy in plenty of situations.

Can safely carry 10-12ft long items without a bed rack, extender or passing through the rear window.

Wife and I sleep comfortably with the tailgate up. Makes camping very simple!

For work. My job box fits with the canopy on and tail gate up with plenty of room for other equipment in the bed. Everything stays dry and secure. I get paid to use my personal vehicle for work rather than having to go pick up the 3 ton cab over.

I need to get more than a couple potted plants in the back of my pick up truck. So I have the 6 foot bed. If it came with a 7 foot bed, I would’ve been all over that. With a Tundra was just a bit too much truck for my needs.

Man I sure hope you are right! But I have a feeling that soon we will see the roads/highways start to be built and retrofitted with GPS Sensors that will make this a non issue for AI to get past. I don't know if you have driven a new Hyundai Genesis or a Tesla, but they do a pretty damn good job already. Go test drive a Genesis, sitting in the driver seat while a car takes a Highway interchange at 70MPH all on it's own is both impressive and terrifying all at once.

Also, I vote 6ft LB all the way!!! Have owned both and can't even count how many times the longer bed has been clutch for success. Also wouldn't recommend sleeping in a 5ft bed with your tailgate down in bear Country, but that could just be me.. I especially recommend a bed shell and 6ft bed if you keep bikes, skis, fishing/camping gear, boats, or anything else of value in your truck. Have had too many valuables "walk away" in an open bed. The short bed IS easier to park, and has a slightly better approach angle in the rocks, but if your primary objective is wheeling hard then chop that thing to 4ft and go climb some rocks! After all it's your truck, so ultimately it's up to you what is most important!

Here I think they just call that an easy target, too many people looking for "free" gear out there these days.

There's been a surprising amount of times the 6' has come in very useful for me (lot of furniture, junk, etc.), where things just barely fit. Do realize the 6' length allows for more diagonal length to fit longer items.

I'd love a Tundra some day and couldn't even see myself going back down to a 5.5' bed, even with the larger width.

Never driven a Tesla, the the unpredictability of the road is what gets me. Sometimes construction makes traffic intentionally drive on the wrong side of the highway (divided of course) and there can be debris in the road. How would it handle a deer crossing in front of you? Just lock up the breaks? That can’t end well. What about a slightly flooded road? Way too many variables for it to be feasible anytime soon.

There’s a reason the majority of the vehicles and their testing exists in Western states where there is almost always ideal conditions. It would almost certainly not move at all in a place like NYC where cabs, box trucks and even police are constantly cutting you off.

Lastly, there seems to be a big push for driverless semis. Have these people been to a truck stop at night? There’s already never any parking. Most rural truck stops have gravel lots anyway. And then who is gonna plug it in? I guess dedicated routes? But then again when an accident shuts down traffic for 3 hours and then the battery dies that’s causing even more issues.

those reasons are why you're supposed to be paying attention when using those features. They're not self-driving cars.

also, you know Teslas have anti-lock brakes? but yea, if they detect an unpredictable obstacle, yes, they'll slam the brakes, just like you would, but with a much faster reaction time.

I had a shittastic helper with this load, but with the length, the Taco hauled it. I do think the stiffeners paid for themselves that day.

I bought my DCLB for the bed length. Makes things easier. For example when I sold my running boards, they fit diagonally in the bed when I went to meet the buyer.
