From what I heard/researched oem is really the only one that won’t leak over time. From what I searched they aren’t too far off from what I found on rock auto a while ago. Could have changed now.

I would run 60-80ft. Keep the other part as an extension. Or just spool out more line and be done. At the end of the day if it’s a hard pull you’ll be running a pulley either way.

Hi tacoma16, I called carquest yesterday and was told 600.00 for one in Quebec . Only one they had listed. Would an oem one be much more?
    Thanks

This is about $1000 on this site without shipping. When I checked scarbourgh toyota it was around the same price.

I’m not entirely sure if the aftermarket racks are good, but based on what I have found, oem is the way to go.

    What is the core charge?

edit: the Toyota US market also offers a re-manufactured 44250-04030-84

I see them at my US dealer at $601.40 US for new and $293.05 for re-manufactured with a $150.00 core charge. You won't save much with the exchange and shipping but it gives you an idea of where pricing is at.

From what I have read, if you are paying to get it installed, go OEM, as the stock rack lasts. The savings on a aftermarket rack apparently go out the window because of the labour you’ll have to pay to have another rack installed.

again, I don’t have any personal experience of this, just what I have found. I’m on the fence, since I’ll be doing the install so a lifetime rack can kept being replaced. However, my time and patience are also being considered lol.

let us know what you find. I’m due for a rack as well

Doing more number crunching; 4 "layers" (which according to smitty) holds 98 feet of rope giving the winch a pulling strength of 7950lbs in a straight line pull. if i pull out 25 feet (which is most likely something to happen) that goes up to 8570lbs.

as you mentioned, if it's a hard pull, if i spool out 60 feet to a tree 30 feet out with a pulley, winch cap is 9100lbs*2=18200lbs due to pulley. i'm laughing and realizing i'm overthinking everything and should stop procrastinating and put the damned line into the truck.

i'm becoming this guy too often.
    o_O

TLDR: hell with it i'm putting in the full 100 feet. worst case, the line snaps at some random length, and that'll be the new extension length.

    So after all that math,
    tapping out on the calculator....
    Stressing and figuring...

    You calculated,,,,,,

To just cut it in half!?

And then you ask if you are overthinking this. :p

But what happens if you want to use a snatch block (s)? To increase you winch capacity?

Your 70' into a mud pit, will you want to fiddle with an extension then?
Might need the drainage coefficient for the surrounding area with the recent local rainfall. To calculate that probability.

Does your G/F think it is long enough?

What if... did you calculate for...Coriolis effect?

Might need a bigger slide rule for all this. o_O

A self righting solution for his truck...never happens tho...wait

I'll step back now, i really have zero technical data to support this conversation...I crutch it with attempts at humour

There isn’t a problem really. There is a theory that when you have more wraps on the winch drum you are technically loosing pulling power.

So you can either leave all the 100ft on and have to pull out more line in the case of a heavy winch (or run a double line pull) or shorten the line so you don’t have to pull out as much line to have the optimal wraps on the drum. You can use the removed winch line as a extension of need be.
