Thank you. I rotated it back to what it was and have shock removed. Do I need a press or anything specially to get this spacer out? Is it not recommended to tap it out with dead blow hammer? Thank you guys so much.

@lemon177 this is the 600lb spring. I haven’t touched it. Out of the box this way.

The top hat should be installed so the threaded holes line up with the shock tower and the upper flex point is perpendicular to the frame. Thread the bolts hand tight.

then adjust the lower mount to fit in the LCA tabs. You should be able to pull the misalignment spacers out by hand, but if not you can use a punch to spin the shock shaft into the correct position

Just bolt the top up in the correct orientation, and manually turn the bottom so the spacers are correctly oriented on the bottom. Screwdriver or whatever fits in the lower mount, and spin in. Don't need to make it any harder.

image.jpg Thank you for all your patience guys. Got the top hats orientated and the spacer on the other side. Looks like it might be difficult to access the preload bolt at this orientation. Didn’t think about that. Will see how she rides first and tackle that as necessary. Threads showing are just shy of 2inches.

With the amount of force that spring is creating while installed on the shock, I’d rather remove the shock and install correctly. only have to move a fraction or so of an inch if you do so but to each their own.

I’ve been scouring TW and YouTube lately for lift info and ran across that video yesterday. As soon as I read your post, I figured the video might help. Looks like you’re heading in the right direction. Let us know what you think of the on/off road ride quality when you get everything buttoned up. Peace!

Whaddup all just wanted to update this thread and give one more thanks to everyone who helped me get through my install. While I’ve worked a bit on vehicles I’ve owned in the past this is my first experience dealing with suspension components. Shocks are buttoned up And I will be dialing in the ride height as I am sitting way to high as @desertjunkie760 pointed out. My coilovers came with a spanner wrench but like most posts state it is fairly worthless at least in my own usage. I’ll be at the hardware store this evening to find a 5/16 punch or two or something along those lines. This article below helped me a great deal in getting a clearer understanding of coilover preload and ride height dynamics. It was awesome to have their recommended ride height charts as well. For me I am not trying to get the biggest lift instead I am more keen on achieving balance of proper performance and truck aesthetics. https://accutuneoffroad.com/oem-front-coilover-shock-setup/

good luck to anyone considering replacing their suspension themselves and hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes and mix ups. I’m sure I’ll run into another snag down the line and I’m grateful to have a resource like TW. Be safe out there homies! Peace.

Edit: I suppose you could just browse accutunes archive but here’s another link that I found very informative and clear. Big ups to @AccuTune Offroad for providing such helpful knowledge. https://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/coilover-spring-rates-for-toyota-tacoma-4runner/

ive seen many posts asking and explaining best ways to increase preload but i was wondering if i wanted to decrease preload would it still be better to droop the suspension ? just a loose hypothesis but thinking with weight on it might help ease the adjustment collar up instead of trying to pull everything up. i managed to rotate the collar about a quarter turn and then it wouldn't budge. lubed up the threads and used a 5/16 punch but wouldnt turn a lick after that. trying to dial out the taco lean and am off about a half inch. also i did notice that collar is very near the split in the spring. not sure if this point could be the crux of rotation. thanks for input!

edit: i managed to move collar a quarter turn with wheels off on jack stands.***

Anytime you adjust the height, you want to have the truck off the ground (no weight on the suspension, let it droop). Jack up the truck and remove wheels for easier access. It'll help turning the collar.

Man I don’t know how some of you doods are spinning these. I thought it’d be easier trying to take preload off. Did all the suggestions. Truck is jacked up. Collar lock backed out. Threads were sprayed down a few times. A pretty burly 5/16 punch. Brute force. Haven’t even got close to a full rotation. Need to drop this side (passneger) about a half inch haha The 2 holes I have access to are getting pretty jacked. Shoots!

It’s not that easy, but I had no problem doing my 700lb coils.
