We all know that CD players are no longer part of our trucks. We can rip our music to USB sticks and play that way. But some of us need a CD player. We have big CD collections and don't want to spend the time ripping We borrow or have books on CD that keep us entertained on road trips. I can get some on my Ios phone but that's limited, at least for free ones.

So looking for specific recommendations for a portable cd player that either plugs intoi our USB port or that Bluetooth will recognize. Ideally it is powered by the USB port as well as uses it to transfer data, keeping it to a one cord solution. I've tried using a portable USB cabled cd / dvd burner that I use to work with discs on my laptop but it isn't recognized. I've spent time wandering through google hyped ads. I've found one 200 buck unit that is designed for the job, but hesitate to lay out that kind of dough unless I know it'll work.

I also don't know if a simple aux to USB cable could work with one of the old portables kicking around, powered from the 12volt port. It would be ugly.

    So friends, any ideas?

From 2020 on, Toyota like many car companies stopped putting in cd players. Some companies started much earlier.

I'm looking for the same thing, it seems some of the bluetooth CD players are hit and miss on pairing with a Toyota

Is there any way to play tunes on a USB stick AND simultaneously also connect to Carplay? Otherwise I need a CD solution as well.

Really guys..learn to embrace the future and let go of the past. CD's are so 90's.
Rip your CD's in iTunes with a good PC this will take about a minute or 2 per CD.
Buy a 64gig mini USB and create folders on it like you would on your PC and name it whatever you like.
Drag n drop your musics or book audios from iTunes to the appropriate folder on the USB stick.
On the Taco's head unit click audio, USB, browse, folders, select the folder you want to listen to.
You can listen all day without touching a single CD.

This isn't really helpful. Please read the original post. I have plenty of discs ripped to USB. That isn't the point. I'm not going to rip books on disc CD's from the libe to a USB stick. And right now the free audio book selection is way behind what discs there are.

How about just swapping out the head unit?

I haven't used one of these adapters in my truck - I have a '16 with a 1 CD player - BUT I bought a similar one for an old Bang & Olefsun unit (1980s) to use with my cell phone and it works fine. Definitely worth trying for the price!

I ripped my CDs years ago and put them in storage. They just take so much room, they scratch, and just a pain. I also destroyed a few CDs on extremely hot days by leaving them in the car by accident. I don’t miss road trips and taking 20-40 CDs and realizing the one I was in the mood for, I didn’t bring.

I think Ford started a long time ago. My wife’s 2016 RAV4 doesn’t even have one.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
    No.

You would have to get the aforementioned USB -> 3.5mm jack adapter.

Disk readers take up a lot of space and the fact that they have been discontinued from cars and computers for the past 8-10 years makes them more expensive to manufacture.

OP, you could always pick up a Bluetooth CD player or adapter (as mentioned by others) and connect it to the Taco. Personally, I like how the oem head unit in the 2020+ works and looks, so I wouldn’t remove it.

I know this is not what you are asking but if you have a smartphone you could always use audible or an unlimited music subscription for $5 a month. You could also burn the cds to your Apple or Google music account an avoid dealing with usbs and have them in the cloud.

Thats why I said transmitter. It takes the analog signal from a portable cd player, digitizes it, and then transmits via bluetooth to the trucks stereo.

Unless someone has a bunch of bootlegs or rarities, there's no reason to not have Spotify or some other music account. A million songs at your fingertip for the cost of less than 1 CD/month. It baffles me why anyone would still want to fumble around with swapping out CDs while driving.
