Hi everyone. Knew to this board as I just got my first Taco but have been fan ever since I saw Marty McFly’s Toyota truck. Does anyone here have any experience with buying a bed extender for a trail edition? Mine has large bed boxes that go almost to the back of the bed. Thanks

I have the OEM bed extender. I imagine it would work with the boxes. I mounted a shovel on the side all winter and it seemed to work fine. Given the size of the shovel, I can't imagine the boxes stick out much farther.

Oh, and you need to ditch those STUPID trail boxes!

I'll take them off you hands for $50. :D

I have to admit that they take up more of the bed than I would like and I appreciate you trying to rip me off for them but I’ll pass on the offer for now. Posted a picture as suggested. Thanks

Just checking back on this: Anyone tried to install a bed extender in a Trail Edition? I've got an order placed on a TE but wondering if I'll need to pull out the boxes to get the extender to fit. Anyone tried it?

Yep, when I placed my order, I asked the dealer if they could just delete them. No dice. Really just need to make sure I can install a bed extender so I can transport longboards to and from the beach, which is literally like six blocks from my house. Any long transport I'll put the boards on racks but I really would like to have an option to cart a 10-foot longboard back and forth.

It looks like those boxes "curve" in specifically for the bed extender. Is there anyway you could find someone close by to let you test fit one?

Or could you build a truck and add that on Toyota's page? I know with some options it will make you delete certain things when you add certain packages.

Looking at your bed and the picture from @RedWings44, it looks like it'll fit perfect with the shape of the boxes. Another option is trying to see if the 2nd gen Tacoma bed extender is compatible. They arent as tall as the one pictured. They're straight across instead of having the hump.

You sure have a lot of room left with those boxes :anonymous:

Plan to. Was wondering if there was a solution for the bed extender without having to remove them. I think I found the answer but, of course, won’t know for sure until the truck arrives, which is likely a few months out still.
