When I got mine, I wasn't expecting performance gains or improved mpg's. I know better. CAI's are debatable even on forced induction vehicles. It's all about the sound and S&B delivers. Nice guttural gurgles low in the revs and wails like a banshee during WOP. Throttle response is much improved too. I'm not affiliated with S&B, it's just a quality unit

Modifications are bad and only bad people modify.
I have had the same experience in my 86 with improved throttle with an AFE Takeda. Almost like the flywheel got a little lighter or something and it revved a bit more quickly. One thing of note is that the location of the MAF/MAP in any vehicle plays a critical role in how the ECU acts.

I will do some more research and try to give some halfway scientific numbers on IAT and fuel trims in a few months when it gets delivered. Also worth noting is any minor changes in engine RPM with the cruise control going the same speed. If any mod marginally, but measurably, decreases the rpms at a given speed, that would be an indicator that it does provide some efficiency benefit, provided that the filter does the job as well as or (preferably) better than the OEM one and the stock computer plays ball. I think if you don't like it, the worst thing that will happen is that you're out $100 and sell it to another person who would enjoy it. A cheap lesson if you will. That S&B looks fantastic!
