Just put a deposit down on a TRD Off-Road Manual.

I emailed maybe 30 dealers for prices. When they emailed back I told them I'm looking for a $2k dealer discount, which I felt was very realistic based off what I read in this thread. Several of them told me that I'd NEVER find a dealer go that low.

I eventually found Stevinson Toyota East near Denver, who pretty much mark down every TRD Off-Road Manual $2k with no negotiation. But the cars sell before they hit the lot (unsurprisingly) and they're currently backordered 6-8 weeks-ish. I engaged them for a few weeks and eventually one came up that I liked.

My local dealer kept stringing me along, saying stuff like "my sales manager hates getting undersold, let me talk to him because I think we can match that discount" and then he'd just kinda go silent for 2 days, and eventually come back with an equal discount (i.e. none) on a cheaper truck.

It's Magnetic Grey Metallic and the only add-ons are floor mats and spare tire lock. Kinda sucks about the chrome bumper but I can fix that for a lot less than $700. Overall I'm pretty stoked. It's estimated to arrive in 7 weeks.

This is crazy. Traded my 2016 in back in April for $27,000. Thought I did great as the private party value was 26,400. I paid $28,600 for it back in 2016. I believe at that time the trade-in value was 24,600. Kbb keeps sending me emails every time there is a significant price change. I just got one that says it went up 4%. KBB Private party is 31,500. Granted you’re not going to get much of a discount right now so it kind of balances out.

In my experience the Kelley blue book value is pretty darn accurate. Obviously The value of something is what someone is willing to pay. That being said many dealers go straight off Kelley Blue Book and many many used car places do the same. The crazy part to me is how the trend of increasing values is pulling up the used car values as well.

yeah, many people disparage KBB, but it's still a big evaluator in the game. My banks have always used NADA. These are going to be a data point in the grand scheme of things.

But anyway, your point is a good one--seeing it trend UP is very interesting data.

 

In my area, Tacomas are in such short supply that if you can find one, the going rate is $500 under MSRP (and an additional $1,000 off as the current Toyota incentive). A friend of mine works at a local Toyota dealership. He told me they typically have 40-50 Tacomas on the lot. Today they have TWO.

if I combine the 6 dealers between them there is 187 tacoma in the lot

not a single one meets or met my shopping criteria

If I want to rebuy what I bought in 2018, SR AC, or any 2wd, plenty of options locally

 

Just picked up my sky silver V6, 4X4, SR with the SX package yesterday. Came bundled with the floor liners, sill protectors, mud guards.

I heard a rumor but I can't remember where (possibly on here?) that you can sometimes modify a truck slightly before it's built at the factory... Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Is there a word I can use if I call my dealer? My truck is scheduled to be built at the end of the month

 

You can make a request but it won’t always hold up. You have to do it pretty early I believe. You can add/remove some extras. Color can sometimes change. I’m not sure about the packages though. A month is pretty soon. They allowed me to remove the bedmat option (bought separately to save $) but wouldn’t add in a remote locking tailgate. This was a month before build date.

 

I agree. I didn't want to go over $40k for a modest mid-size truck. The few changes they made in 2020 make the base OR package pretty sweet on its own (not that leather and a sunroof aren't tempting).

 

I ended up buying a 2021 TRD Offroad in Army Green 2 days ago. Double cab long bed. Nearly impossible to get in my area without the Premium Offroad Package. It was ultimately wait 6 months and hope for the best, or pay for the classiest TRD available. I said F it. I was opposed to paying an extra $4k for the heated leather, sunroof and dual climate control, but man are they nice.

I put one on order 4 weeks ago today. Still waiting for word that the factory will accomodate the dealer request. I was hoping it would be a 2 month wait from time of deposit to delivery, but now I am feeling like it might be more like 3 to 4 month wait.

 

Based on seeing that Akata recently bought a Tacoma from Toyota of Santa Maria at list price, I checked their website and found that they had a Tacoma pretty close to what I am looking for ( 2021 TRD Offroad AT SB in cement with Premium Offroad pkg ( LED headlights, heated, leather seats, and JBL sound ). I spent three days communicating with a sales person and the sales manager just trying to confirm that the truck had the features that I wanted. Truck was supposedly enroute and due to arrive next week. Yesterday, I worked with another sales person as the first two were not working that day. He looked up the truck and said that the truck did not even exist and the stock # was not even a valid #. What a frustrating waste of time!
I plan to go into my local dealer and discuss ordering a truck.

 

That is what I did. In late September my salesman put in a change of color and a few days later added the factory Tonneau. It was built a month later, but he had to get confirmation that the changes "took." Major things like drive train and trim level most likely cannot be changed, but they can certainly put in a change request for many things.
