Lock, Stock, and 2Wheel Low (3rd Gen DIY Mod)

I had 2L on my 93 patty because it was a stick & manual hubs.....what’s 2LM?

I had to use 2L all the time because my e-brake didn’t work and it’d roll in 2wd.
Super cheap lock right lunchbox locker was awesome.

 

2LM is just short for 2 low mod (modification).

I don’t know what kind of price I’d put on a mod like that and especially if it’s pnp, that’s a lot of work to r&d then mfg. Makes you really appreciate the older systems!

Would a poll be in order to ballpark a demand or are they totally useless?

 

Once I have it at least designed and prototyped (I have all the components I need on-hand), I think that is what I will do.

 

2L and locked can get you through a lot of stuff!

Since we are in the mountains for now, I used woolwax and it works great as it makes a nice waxy coating on everything. It does a great job of keeping the road salt & chemicals at bay. However, I found that its stickyness does attract dirt and gunk. iIt still protects - but the coating looks like dirty gunk - not spick and span as yours...

Did you clean that, ot is it really how it looks after a winter?

 

Oh - And a bit of clarity please from those of you with the 2Wlo mod... Is everyone happy with theirs? - I am a bit confused with all the threads; Which hardware should I get?

You can do it yourself with the info in this thread, or you can buy one of my plug and play harnesses. Those are pretty much your two options.

I have yet to hear a single complaint regardless of which way people have gone. It's a worthwhile and very useful modification if you regularly tow, have a heavy truck, or just hate having to slip your clutch all the time.

 

Basically now that it is available in PnP, nobody does the DIY splice method here, instead just purchasing the PnP version... (this thread was developed before locating a source for mat connectors to make it PnP)

 

Got my switch and PnP harness. Ready to go. I also ordered a fog light switch and rear light switch so I can pre wire those at the same time I take apart the dash for the switch installation.
Need to search up a good thread for that.

This would be a great combo, low & locked.

 

@pdcornell noted an error in the wiring text of my instructions (Called out ground on pin 12, which is incorrect to the schematic).

So I hooked up the pnp system, and got a 2lo switch installed. The light on that switch is constantly illuminated.. anyone run into this and have a fix?

 

This is normal. Text is always on. The symbol will light up when you activate the switch.

 

got ya, I just read in the discussion post that a guy just taped over it.
I suppose tapping into a different accessory line could change this?
Not sure if worth it lol

 

You can grab an Ill- wire from one of the nearby switches and connect it to the switch ground wire. That will get you OEM dimming and on/off with the headlights.
