That would certainly be the hope. I also just looked at my roommate with the "right hole" comment. We had the same idea, rear engine midget with a trans axle.

    awright brethren, I'd appreciate opinions.

Truck failed me for the first time. Mind you I have never had so much as a hiccup with it. Fired it up just fine, drove to store A. Shopped for 20 min. fired it up just fine, drove to store B, shopped 3 min. Fired it up just fine, drove to store C. Shopped 7 min, turn the key, and she's deader than a texas salad bar. Disconnect phone from stereo usb. Disconnect 12v 'lighter' to the 400w inverter that is usually plugged in. Try ignition. Nothing. Fortunately I travel with a boost pack... put it on there, try it and boom, fired it up just fine.

Drive it home. Shut it off. Turn it on. Dead. Grab my Multimeter. With key OFF, battery is showing 12.75 V, turn it to ON, just before ignition, and it shows 5.75 V. Starts effortlessly with the pack.

Battery is original to the truck, so it's 7.5 years old, time for a new one for sure. But...shouldn't it show signs of fading before acting like this? I'm going to replace it, but now I'm thinking I've got an issue somewhere. Looked everywhere for signs of rodent diners on board, and I don't see it. Is there a hidden spot I might be missing?

details: 2013 / 4.0 / 69xxx on the odo / professionally installed stereo (HU/Powered sub/AMP) Only other electrical non stock items are LED reverse lights and LED dome light. And I run the aforementioned DC inverter from one of the dash sockets.

What saeth the brotherhood? (this is the generic term - @FlyingWolfe YOU are included.)

Many years ago my GMC did the exact same thing.

started at the house just fine. Went to work and pulled into the shop. Shut it off to unload stuff.
    Jumped in.. CLICK..
Battery internally shorted just like that. It happens.
Put a new battery in it and then check charging output..
Bad battery will give you false charge readings.

Battery time. The resting voltage doesn't mean much if the voltage is tanking under a load

Thanks Mike. Waiting for the son to get home from work and I'll have him run me to Costco for an Interstate. Fingers crossed that's all it is.
