I tried searching. I have a manual that came with two FOB H keys. Where can I get a plain key made? I just want a non remote key to leave as a hide a key under it. I don’t need it programmed.

Also, any suggestions where to leave a key under the truck?

Not sure on where to have one made. I imagine Walmart is a good start, if not Toyota themselves.

As for hide-a-key locations. I have family who had a hide-a-key hidden on the top side of a "shelf" (for lack of a better term) behind the front bumper cover. They drilled a small hole on the bottom of the "shelf" above the lower part of the bumper cover. They then wired the key to it. Completely unnoticeable unless you are looking for it.

I zip tied my extra in the cubbie storage in the bed of the truck. It’s pretty hidden unless you know to look for it.

When I had a MESO minimalist fob I put the physical key in the hitchvault.

Lost my fob and had been wanting to go with the Lexus key card but didn’t want to pay for it. Since I had to buy a new key anyway I picked up and programmed the Lexus key card. Dealership never understands why I hand them a credit card when they ask for the keys.

The local Ace hardware says they can cut the Toyota security keys but I have never tried them.

Holy crap! What a brilliant idea. Here I thought a magnetic hide a key would work attached inside of the frame. You, sir, have sold me on this and will be purchasing in 3, 2, ...

I found it on here. It worked really well and when I was at the beach I could drop the fob in it and not worry about it getting wet or stolen.

The only downside is I bought a camper so my ball stays on most of the time now and can’t really use the hitchvault.

Add a front hitch! Super helpful in getting your camper situated in a tight spot and a 2nd spot for one of these. Or a mount for winch.

Hey guys I just saw this thread, we just came out with our gen 4 vaults and just did a bunch in the Edmonton Oilers colors. Too bad they just lost the playoffs lol.

we have a Father’s Day sale on now and vaults are 20 percent off.

    Cheers dudes

I have a second gen but I assume the key is the same for third gens. I got a plain metal key cut at Ace and ziptied it inside the frame under the truck where a large harness runs so the riptie looks like it belongs(I know I'm overthinking it).
I've never been a fan of the magnetic hidden key boxes since I assume they could get knocked off over bumpy enough roads.

This is awesome had no idea it existed, will be buying one. Any chance you could custom make me one with the Tampa Bay Lightning Logo? Lol

Also could you add the link for Amazon.com as I can’t find your product on there right now.

I can second the hitch vault, great spot for my spare. I also trimmed and epoxied a rubber hitch plug to the end of it to conceal it a little more.

These look pretty cool too.. I reckon you'd have to keep the dials pretty clean tho.

My grandfather always tied his with a string around one of the wiper arms and let it hang into the cowl. I've never done it myself but I liked the idea.

All keys -- that will run the truck -- have to be programmed. (Actually, it's not the key itself that is programmed, but the ECU so that it recognizes the key.) You can get plain keys without a chip, but all they do is open the door. They won't start the engine.

The keys that came with your truck have the remote lock/unlock feature. Toyota also makes H keys without that feature, which are cheaper. They still need to be programmed. The programming is what drives the cost up.

As far as hiding a key somewhere on the exterior of the truck, I suggest a two-step approach. Hide a cheap, plain key externally. That will let you open the door. Then hide a programmed H key inside the truck, so that it doesn't risk falling off and getting lost.

My key opens the door AND cranks the engine.
    It's a key.

You would think that is the case but it works very well! Been using them for 4 decades on road and off without issue.

Yeah we can do it, I’ll try to have it done by the end of next week.

Vaults will be back on Amazon soon, there are more currently in transit to them.
