I’m here 5 years later but I wanted to know if you ever figured anything out about the air always coming in when the recirculating is on and vents closed? My 2015 tacoma also has this problem and lately it’s getting worse. If it smells bad outside, the smell comes in even if I have everything closed. Like you, my other older 2009 Tacoma doesn’t have that issue, nor does RAV4 or Yaris. Seems it’s only my 2015 tacoma. Hopefully you found a solution . Let me know- thanks

Have you looked at the recirculation system to see if something is preventing a good seal? Probably have to get in there to find out.

I am not too sure how to check the recirculation system for a good seal. Would you be kind enough to point me in the right direction? Perhaps a diagram or video or anything that you may be aware of? Thank yo greatly for the swift reply- I greatly appreciate it.

Almost all cars have at least two vents that are fresh air vents and always allow fresh air flow regardless if the system is in recirculate mode. Seems to me the Tacoma’s just allow more fresh air flow than most. My 2015 is the same way.
