Dan's going to cut out the cancer and patch it. Then we're going to cap it.

I wonder at what point it just becomes more cost effective to buy a frame either new or from a salvage yard.

Yea toyota corporate told me to pound sand. They said they sent me letters etc but I never got anything for an inspection and when I bought the truck they told me I wouldn't be eligible due to the CRC coating spray they put on. Then they bitched and said they would have told me if I brought the truck into service to any toyota dealer... but I do all the work on my own. Go figure.

Just ordered a set for my truck. Going to have to figure out how to mount the rock sliders onto the truck after I get these welded in. Also plan on doing the cab mount relocation too...

Part Number is TAC-230X/D 229.95 for one side of 449.95 for both.

I can confirm that the new saf t caps for front end 2nd gens fit well. I have a guy who's going to weld mine on for 300 bucks next week. I'm doing all the prep on the side of the street in front of my house lol

Fitment for mine sucked... But I already cut up the frame so my fab guy made it work.
The aft flat section was way too narrow from the manufacturer.
Here's the finished product - some of the holes didn't line up so I had to drill or cut them out so I can mount the sliders back up.

I will be reaching out to safe t cap to notify them of their tolerance issues and lack of fitment. I only used the passenger side piece for now.

Also skipped the portion that welds to the cab mount. I'm cutting mines off eventually and I will use a cab mount relocation kit instead.

Run a cutting wheel down the bottom to open it a bit and either plate over or if the space isn’t too big weld it up.

Thanks for sharing.. I didn't notice any issues with the fitment on the lower portion but I'm going to recheck before I do anymore work. I used two little bottle jacks to put the cap up onto the frame then banged it in place..

How are you feeling overall about the frame repair?
