I’m planning on trading in my Subaru mistake that was supposed to be an off-road play mobile for an upgrade. I’m looking at the ‘21 TRD PRO so that I can go play without having to do a bunch of mods out the door.
My idea is to have a solid vehicle that works for real world purposes yet is good for making memories for my munchkin and myself on our days away from mundane life.

Welcome! As sweet as the Pros are, you'd definitely be just fine out of the box with one of the lower trims too. Hope you get the truck you want!

Welcome! I would suggest a TRD Off-Road with an aftermarket lift to go offroading with. The Pro is a great truck but the suspension is not great for lifting. If you want a pro and want more ground clearance, you would have to replace a ton of the suspension components and that would cost several thousands of dollars just for a lift. You'd save a lot of money going with a Off-Road with the premium package and an aftermarket lift. I'm running the Fox 2.0 Performance Coilovers Shocks and I have about 1.5 inches of lift in the front and 0 in rear with 265/75/16 (32") tires

here is mine at the moment:

Since the driver matters most and tires matter 2nd, all of the Tacoma models w/4wd will do so close to the same off road that 90+% of the population would not know which they were in if you could conduct a blind driving test.

You wanna drop buck for a Pro for some other reason, your call. But don't do it because you think you are getting a better off road truck.

This is why I joined this list. To learn before I drop a lot of $$ on my next vehicle.
My Subaru was brand new when I drove it off the lot. 7 miles on it. They knew I was going to be taking my granddaughter out to the hills to see the places I took her mom, in another Subaru that was capable of doing things others couldn’t. My mistake for not researching before buying it. I didn’t realize the way quality had tanked between the last one and now.
I was thinking of a truck at the time but was talked out of it. Ugh.

I agree with the the previous posts about the TRD pro vs other models. I have a TRD OR and to me; it is more than capable for what you’d want to do in yours.

I would also recommend going with the TRD-Offroad and using the money you save to do your own suspension lift and get off-road worthy tires. One option no one has mentioned is the the westcott designs TRD Pro lift kit, which is an option to utilize the TRD Pro fox shocks and gain 1.5 inch inch of lift in the front ($280) which could be paired with an AAL. Westcott designs also has an option with a 1inch block for the rear.

What have been peoples experience with the limited? I’m looking at the electronics components (multiple USB port access options hands free Apple play etc) for work related things since I do a lot of meetings sitting in my vehicle as well as the car seat tether system for multiple seats. I want to be comfortable while hauling kids around or having to sit for two hours talking to folks on a screen.
Yet I want to be able to make the vehicle “mine” and have fun too.

I believe the tech package pretty much covers these in the TRD Sport and TRD Off Road, but their are plenty of built up limiteds out there
