3rd filter? Or did they try a fast one?

I just took one of our company cars to E-Z lube. It's an 03 matrix. Normally I would never think about going there, as they have ripped me off twice in the past. I hate that place, but they were the only place open and I am the taking the car on a long trip in the morning. Anyway, I know they are knowm for shady tactics and the techs get commission on every extra service they sell, that's why I never even listen to their spiel. However, this guy showed me a filter, that he said was my cabin filter, and this thing was thrashed. Literally had a giant hole in it, and chunks of dirt, leaves, rocks, it was nasty. Thing is, it had metal mesh type wire, and looked nothing like a cabin filter, he also didnt even go behind the glove box where the filter is. Is there another filter I am unaware of, besides the normal air fiilter and the cabin one? Or are they just that shady that they keep the worlds most beat looking filter around to try and scare people into dropping an unnecessary 50 bucks? If so, I am going back there on Monday to raise hell.

Yeah, the cabin one behind the glove box right? But nothing in the engine bay other than the regular air filter?

The matrix should only have an engine air filter and cabin filter. The cabin filter does not have wire mesh in it. Sounds shady to me.

Hmm, maybe it's the CARB filter that sits in the intake? In 2nd gen Tacos it sits downstream of the normal air filter, so it never gets dirty from debris.

If they ripped you off twice, why give them a third chance?

you should keep a plastic snake in there next time, if they try and change the cabin filter, they'll run into it, then you'll know, either that or chris4x4's favorite manimal, the spider.
