Well, I just left the dealer. The service manager denied my 2011 for the TSB for the rear springs. I tried to call Toyota in California, they are closed for the holidays.

Now what can I do to possibly get Toyota to take care of this? My VIN # wa included so why won't they do this?

Correct me if I am wrong...but TSBs are notifications that something -could- be amiss, yes? It's not like a recall where they have to perform the maintenance if it is decided that it is not required. If your truck isn't presenting the issue (even if it is in the span of the TSB) then perhaps that is why they denied the maintenance?

I think that's bullshit. The TSB says if a customer comes in complaining of a bottoming-out issue with a moderate amount of weight in the bed, the fix is to swap the springs with a four-leaf pack. There should not be a lot of interpretation there. I told my dealer wHat was going on, they ordered the parts, and the install was done two days later. That's the way it "should" work.

My dealer didn't even question it. I called, said I'd be towing a trailer occasionally, and they did it.

If I were you, I'd take it to another dealer and tell them you had it loaded and it hit the stops. Either that or call Toyota and get a case number. Then they'll contact the dealer for you and you should be good to go..

I think that's exactly right...use the exact wording of the TSB. If you use that, some idiot that's a service writer will look that up and notice that there is a TSB that covers the issue. Agree that it doesn't make sense but will probably get the job done.

Go to another dealer. Some dealers will do it, some wont. I had to go to 3 different ones to get my leaf springs taken care of. When you go to the next one tell them that you just bought this 30 thousand dollar truck and you want it to perform like a truck. When you put stuff in the back it drops too low. Tell them that you went to another dealer and you were very disappointed and you hope they can take care of you. I went right to the manager on my third try. Again, if it doesnt work, keep trying. Its free money for the dealer so I dont get why they dont just fix it.

I told him that when I brought about 400 lbs of stuff home in the back, it sagged down pretty bad and I was nose high. I told him that I would also be hauling a trailer for a boat or jet ski this spring and summer. He said that it was not meant to haul that much. He said that I should have bought a different truck. I told him that I guess I should ahve bought a Silverado then?

Call Toyota and tell them exactly what the dealer said. Guarantee it gets taken care of. Then, start using a different dealer...

Call another dealer. If you don't get anywhere....grow some balls and get pushy with them. DEMAND that you have it done.

Don't let them push you around.
Do some research, I think there's a list of 'TSB' friendly dealers on this forum somewhere.

+2. Wording is the key. Also, TSB documentation isn't meant for the consumer so your approach to the issue has to be specific to the complaint but also leading to the correct TSB. Remember, Toyota produces other models than the Tacoma so don't expect the service writer to know exactly what you're referring to.

My Tacoma was sitting right in front of him in the bay. As to the "harsh" ride. I would think that riding nose up with 400lbs in it is pretty harsh. If you can't treat it like a truck and haul something. Then they might as well not call it a truck. Add it to their line of cars.

A "TSB" is created and made available to dealerships after a certain number of vehicles are found to have the same complaint regarding their vehicle. There are other things that generate them but this is a basic explanation.

It is not a guarantee for them to replace a part just because it is mentioned. They have to deem the part defective or recieve the correct customer complaint regarding a part in question ie.... rear TSB for Tacoma.

My brothers dealership doesn't question any TSB work unless they are V.I.N. specific because he said the dealership gets paid and the mechanics make money and the customers love it because they get a free no hassle repair so everyone comes out a winner.

Mine was denied at the dealer I bought my truck from even after telling the service writer what I thought of his decision.

I took it to another dealership and they did the TSB. He talked with me a minute during initial visit said he would order the parts and to come back in 3-4 days and they would install.

Bottom line take it to another dealer.

Just call another dealer on Monday. If you really need to make your point go to Home Depot, buy a shit load of sand in bags, drive to the dealership and take the service manager for a ride over some speed bumps. He'll see for himself.

You MUST use the words like....

    "HARSH RIDE" (most important!)
    "Un-Safe" (do you have kids?)
    "Bottoming Out"

with a very light load in the rear.
