Mileage (lack there of) is my biggest disappointment with this little truck. Principle problem seems to be the "overactive" knock sensor. As you fuel the rascal, it repeatedly adjusts the timing downward - never back up - to match the worst tank of gas. If you pull the battery lead and let it sit a minute - it will reboot and have to relearn the base settings - and often runs much better until you get the next marginal tank of gas. Why the engineers that program these things aren't smart enough to make the system "think" a little better is a great unknown. It would be relatively easy to monitor the fuel level output and recognize a major upward value - and try a bit more timing, or go back to square one.

Draft the vehicle in front of you. 3 inches from their bumper should add .6 mpg.

OVTune, I got about 2mpg increase after flashing the 87thx tune on my previous truck. Just got a manual truck and I’m hoping for the same result

ovtune is your only option (or also change gears) with that setup.

Wait till gas is back to $4. Then you'll be even more concerned.

Pro tip. Trucks aren't bought for economy. Econo boxes are.

In the meantime, my 5 lug access cab will give me at 22 @ legal highway speeds, AC and cruise on.

Fill tires with helium :fistbump: it will make the truck lighter.

This. But if your only concern is saving money then there’s no point in getting gears. It’d take years just to break even with the money that you’re saving with a marginal increase in MPG... but your truck will drive a lot nicer so maybe you should let us spend your money for you :notsure:

Combined with 4 less lug nuts and no front end gearing, I'm featherweight.

I’m surprised you only get 22, is it auto or 5MT?

What are you talking about? That's not how the EFI system works.

I’m not sure lol. My 5spd 4x4 2.7 is lifted 1.5” on 265/75 tires and I can get 19mpg at 70mph. I would expect a 2wd on street tires to get at least 25 here in FL

    It's a secret
The "easiest" way...without altering any physical or mechanical aspect of your truck more than you have already performed, without adjusting how you typically drive, without being told to purchase another vehicle...

...refill the tank when your fuel is low and you drove the max amount of mileage you can get from a tank of gas... Did you only get to drive 200 miles from a full tank? Well, fuel it back up and you can get another 200 miles!!!
