If you have 33s+ 100% OVTune. If you have 33s+ and an automatic transmission 1000% OVTune

Dude, thats not even a debate, 4.88's for sure. I got them and I have skinny 33's in MT and I feel fine. I would definitely consider 5.29s if you dont do much highway driving. I run about 2400rpms doing 80mph and Im happy with that. If I had gone 5.29s I think I wouldn't like it at those speeds, but in the city/65-70mph highway driving I'd be pretty happy.

So my recommendation would be 4.88s if you do some consitent 75-80mph driving, 5.29s if you do rarely see those speeds/have another vehicle you could use for that type of driving.

OVTune has some tunes for 4.88s and 5.29s. Im not sure if they're still in beta mode, but a lot of people really like them.

I don't daily the truck and even when I'm on the highway it rarely sees above 70. I also plan to get 34/35s in the future and theres no way I'm regearing again

5.29s. Move on to your next question. I have the 33 MTs and 5.29 would have been better for everything except the highway, which I do a lot of to reach camp sites. Don't get me wrong, 4.88s work amazing in the city, but 5.29s could be better. I do 80mph highway driving pretty often even in the truck so 4.88s are GTG.

Doing some research on regearing and came across this thread. Looking at 255/85/16 mt's and either 4.56 or 4.88 gears for a 2nd gen V6 auto offroad. For those that have done this are you regearing both the front and back or just the back and what would be the differences between those 2 gear choices.

If it's a 4x4 you have to do front and back. The 4.88 will be lower and better than the 4.56. The only downside to going lower, like 5.29s, is higher freeway speeds will be higher rpm

Thanks.... good to know. I don't get out on freeways much other than towing my 15' fishing boat for 30 miles to a turnoff... usually never get over 60 mph. I'm more concerned with the steep grade afterwards getting up to the 6,000' lake.

You need 5.29s then. They make the truck far more capable 0-60. I reasoned out that with 5.29s, I get the same torque off the line as my old V8 full sized.
