6 speed manual trany--1st gear should be lower (creeper gear) it's is too low for the road and too high off road. 2nd Should be lower and used as 1st gear on road. 6th gear should be higher, 1 to 0.75-0.70. Reverse is way too high, I use low range to back up the trailer.

Need more ring & pinion options--3.55 or 3.31 would be good with the 4.0L

Access cab doors should open farther.

    Lot of rust.

4 cylinder should be offered with the 4 door.

I have been a big Toyota supporter, but they're getting bad with customer service.

One thing in particular, the FUCKING bent tailgates.

Customer service is nill on this issue...

Happy New Year to you all!

So far with 107k+ miles I don't know if something is wrong with my cruise control. While driving route 66 to flagstaff from michigan, when I started to get to the long uphill grades @ 75mph + 4mph, if the grade was to steep, the tranny would drop down into 4th gear and wind up to 35/45 hundred rpm. My solution was to shut off the cruise momentarily and use the gas pedal to keep it in fifth. Anybody else with similar experience? Also with a light load maybe 400lb of cargo, I experienced brake fade. probably needs new brakes. Otherwise my girl and I are very pleased with the truck. Gas mileage was 15 on hilly ground @75+mph and 17 on flat grade with a tail wind, goin downhill.

Too damn loud inside, can't have a conversation if your driving faster then 60mph.

    No leather option.

    No Limited option.

Stereo is terrible, no iPod, crappy sound.

    No "luxury" options.

I wish Lexus made a version of the Tacoma. I would buy one STAT!

I can agree with most on the list.. and would add:
    No heated mirrors
    No heated seats

oh and if you use the roof rack it intefers with the sat antenna that is on the roof. It interfers with reception.

I'm at 31,000 and have made two trips from Colorado to Cali....when crusing both times in Utah it would always seem a gear to low and the Rpm's were crazy high.

I have a 2010 Access cab and I'm very disappointed in the radio. I had a 2006 Acess Cab and volume level was about 12 to 15. In my new truck it has to be at 30 for normal listening. Took it to one dealer who said something was wrong and they replaced the radio...got it to 30 and that was the best they could do. Went to another and they also agreed 30 is to high for normal listening but they went to one int he lot and it was also at 30 so they won't do anything. Toyota.com has been worthless...so far won't even escalate my request to someone who might actually care

True 'nuff! Can't argue there isn't a market for midsize trucks...but why turn the best compact truck ever into one for that market? They created the T100, turned it into Tundra Gen 1 and then bloated it into a full size with Gen 2...what was the point of that if they just push the Tacoma into the midsize class they vacated?

    stock..for now
I like my Tacoma, that's why I bought it. If I wanted all the neat-o switches and bells I would have purchased a new BMW....by the way....I traded a newer BMW for my Tacoma. It's a truck, don't like something about it - clear your Saturday get out the tool box and add it...it's part of the fun. :)

I really like what another member said on here. For the third generation, Lexus should make their luxury version of the Tacoma, and Toyota should keep the Tacoma fairly simple and rugged.

Reading this whole post and man im blown away. Guys MAN UP its a fucking pickup truck. Really complaining about lighted 4x4 switch and ipod connections and cup holders. Sound like a bunch of skirts on this post. Bottom line no matter which model you get the Tacoma is a great truck!!!!! .

:(The truck is too big and the thickness of the sheet metal has suffered when they made the truck bigger and tried to save on weight hence the fancy bedliner to keep you from denting the bed outwards........give me back my small truck!

the answer to that question is in the 'What DO you like about the Tacoma' thread...

You do know it's OK to be critical...right?? It's the only way to approach perfection, however impossible it's may be to attain

When a pickup truck costs 20-$30.000 I think you can bitch a bit about the likes and dislikes. My truck isn't just for hauling shit. its a family truck as would be a family car. I bought a brand new Ranger in 94 and treated it like a pickup truck no AC no 4x4 no extra's. It lasted me 12 years I am hoping that I can get a bit more out of this Tacoma that COSTS double that Ranger. The 4x4 switch doesn't light up, try finding the switch in the dark while driving. The front mud flaps scrape when I go over a small speed bump. I think this forum question is to make a suggestion for future improvements not to bitch and moan about a truck.

You know that Toyota left the 4x4 switch unlighted is just idiotic...and what's even more perplexing is how it contrasts with the ergonomics of the fog light switch.

The 4x4 switch isn't lighted but it DOES have an indicator showing it's engaged...the fog light switch is lighted but DOESN'T have an indicator showing it's on. What's up with that? it's like Toyota's human factor engineers are at war with themselves.

These, believe it or not, were the type of thoughtless driver IN-convenience blurps in Detroit's cars that drove us to look at Honda's and Toyota's in the first place. It wasn't just fit and finish quality: they called it "thoughtful design" and are really cheap to implement yet add immeasurably to owner satisfaction. And Americans clamored for it in the 70's and 80's.
