UPDATE.. it was a hood rattle stuffed a bit of foam under the back edge of hood and it went away...

I am deep inside the dash and I have concluded that the rattle Might not be inside, but in the cowl area on the firewall.. but before I put the dash back together(been driving around like this for a week now) is there anything I should be looking for.. I attached pic's with arrows of where the Rattle noise is coming from. while driving around I had my hand in the dash touching things with no effect... so thoughts?
.. and the "turn your radio up" while funny doesn't help..

Mine used to rattle where the dash meets the windshield every time I went over bumps. I ended up using a nylon pry bar for removing door trim to shove thin tool box shelf padding down there. Used several small pieces & not a sound since. Push it down far enough so you can’t see it.

That was a thought, I had rubber hose jammed in-between the dash in the WS and still rattle, it sounds more Metal on Metal, like something is loose... but I have been all over in the dash and nothing is loose...

The plastic cowl under the windshield wipers drains behind the front fenders. I always have leaves and sticks back there (and ice chunks in the winter). It's worth pulling up the cowl or pulling off the fender, if you've gone this far to find it.

that is what started this crazy journey... I have had the "leaf rattle" before and I originally thought that was what it was, cleaned out all leaves and debris and the rattle was still there... and it has gotten worse in the past couple weeks which leads me to believe that it is something that has come loose...

I did have a new rattle start last week. I too thought it was near the firewall, also thought maybe metallic. Drove me nuts. After searching a little inside, I opened my hood & noticed the windshield washer tubing that goes between the hood nozzles was hanging low in the middle & flopping around. I pulled it as tight as possible & used some adhesive to stick it to the underside of the hood. New noise gone.

You might try adjusting your hood height using the two rubber bumpers in the front corners of the hood. They screw in and out. Just remember how many turns you made in or out so you can go back to where you started from.

As and aside, I had a rattle in my dash for several months that I couldn't quite locate. Did the same as you and took out almost the entire dash, including the head unit. Ended up being a pen I'd put in the overhead sunglasses case holder. :frusty:

Has there been any resolution to your issue? I have some sort of odd squeak the sounds like it's originating from behind the glove box on the passenger side. I've been up and down that side trying everything and tightening every bolt that could have worked itself loose to no avail. I'm starting to wonder if it's a hood issue or something on the outside of the truck resonating it's way in. What's funny is that it only seems to happen over small bumps. I cannot duplicate it over big bumps or anything major. Doesn't matter the speed, it'll rattle whenever I'm going over small bumps.

    Cheap ass trucks.

it was the hood hinge, i have a rubber hose cut and under there as a bumper. seems to work fine.
