Update on mine (2021 Sport DCSB Cement) which was ordered on 2/15 - originally told 3/29-4/2, however now the date is 5/3-5/10.

The truck was ordered and built wrong.

I placed the order with specific options and requested a build sheet. After numerous texts, phone calls, emails, stopping down in person - I finally received the build sheet a month later. It was wrong, options that I requested were left off. I then told the dealership to correct the order before the truck was built and they said "they'll try"...

The truck was built on 3/17 and it of course was built without the options I selected.

The dealership is refusing to make this right and provide any assistance to get this corrected - they said the will be "happy to cancel the order" and that was it. Claiming "just because you order a truck a certain way doesn't mean that's how you're going to get it"... I was shocked with that response.

The truck is still scheduled to arrive 5/3-5/10, but I'm not about to pay $45,000 for a truck that isn't exactly what I ordered and I'm certainly not going to give any money to this dealership. All other dealerships I've spoken to are saying it is a 6 month wait for that same truck.

    Looks like I'm screwed.

This is because Toyota actually doesn't take "orders" to build a truck, regardless of what the sales person told you ;)

They are just getting specific allocations

Out of curiosity, what options did they include/leave out? That’s pretty crappy though. I’m realizing how important it is to get a build sheet so you know exactly what to expect.

New guy here from Scranton, PA.

Started my hunt for an OR DCSB AT in Cement at a local dealership on 1/9/21. Sat with the Sales Consultant for a while and we simply could not locate anything in inventory. Made a pretty solid deal with him on a Tacoma that didn't exist yet with the hopes one would show up in next month's allocation. I knew very little about the allocation/production/delivery process at that time. They asked for a deposit as a gesture of commitment. Gave my card number for a refundable deposit but they never ran the card. After a couple weeks we agreed on trying to submit a request for an allocation and we got confirmation of the approval on 1/26. I received a spec sheet with a temp VIN pretty close to what I was looking for. Guanajuato prod facility. The temp VIN suggested the truck's build week would be 3/8. The Salesman got back to me on 3/12 and stated the truck was "wrapping up production today." Feeling uneasy about the deposit they never claimed, I asked about it. Salesman stated they wouldn't run the card until the truck is "on the ground." He also sent me a picture of his computer screen showing the truck was reserved for me somehow. I was now a little more comfortable. Since then, I've checked in with the Salesman and Sales manager weekly with phone and email inquiries on both the permanent VIN assigned to the truck and the Estimated Date of Delivery to the dealership with no responses. Fingers are crossed it all works out, but between the chip shortage, various supply chain delays, covid, communication issues and who knows what else.... gotta just continue to be patient, it's out of my hands. Just keep thinking how great it's gonna be to hop in that truck!

What he said. Huge misconception that you can walk into a dealership and custom order a truck. It's based on allocations of the line.

Just got off the phone with the Sales Manager. He had the permanent VIN for me. He says the truck was unloaded from the vessel yesterday and if everything goes smoothly, I should see the truck in 10-14 days. The excitement is almost overwhelming!

To the folks ordering DCSBs: what are your motivators vs DCLBs? No judgement, just curious since that seems to be the predominant model on this particular thread.

Well I certainly wish I knew that sooner, and I wish the dealership was upfront with me about that. This is my first new car order, so of course I was expecting to have the truck arrive exactly as I ordered.

I personally like the look of the SB vs the LB - also, the LB won't fit in my garage while the SB will.

I also like the look of the short bed more. I drove both the dcsb and the dclb back in January and though there were subtle differences, the sb felt better for me. Having access to trailers also made me feel more comfortable in the occasion that I have to move/haul larger items.
