3500 lbs.... sumptin like dat

 

Ain’t no way it’s that much. This thing Struggles so bad it’s embarrassing. But it was my grandpas truck when he passed so it’s staying.

 

Do yourself a huge favor and come up with a different gate solution on that trailer. I bet drag is the real issue here, not the weight. I remove the rear gate on my utility trailer and get almost 4 MPG better and tows like it's not even there. I have a V6, but towing even an empty utility trailer with a 4' ramp SUCKS!

Ah shit. The main reason I got this trailer was for the reinforced gate haha. Didn’t think that would make much of a difference. It is heavy though. The trailer is rated to haul 3500 pounds.

 

That metal mesh creates a heck of a lot of drag. If you can easily remove it give it a trial run. With and without the gate.

 

I ordered a new Kaufman gooseneck a few years ago. Added some stuff, had it painted blue, etc. After putting a deposit on it they had it done in less than 6 weeks.

Just got an email from them and it says their lead time is now 20 weeks

I drilled two holes to mount this one and sand came out of the rollbar. I guess it’s to keep it from vibrating or collapsing, possibly both.

 

Any thoughts on the most dependable lawn tractor / riding mower that can be had for $3k? Or should I get a cheaper $1500 mower that'll last half as long? Mowing 2+ acres with slight inclines.

 

Possibly a used zero turn?

 

On a riding mower you pay for the transaxle if you want durability. Most cheaper riders have K46 hydros which are trash. If you want it to last get a K58-K62. For 2 acres I'd recommend a Cub XT2 GX54D. It'll last 20+ years and is worth fixing if it breaks. Plus, it looks like a transformer.

You can get about 20 used riders on FB Marketplace for that kind of scratch. 1 has to work, right?

 

More work on the fleet of project clunkers.
Got the Snapper shredder working, had to weld up the belt guard -- had to find it in the garage first. Built in 1973.

The John Deere is done, a tree fell on it, e-bay engine plastic and tin + an old hood I had around and 2 tires.

The New Holland was a $100 yard sale job, apparently it was used at a tenant house and the tenants child slashed the tires... It sat in a garage for years after.
Nice runner with hydrostatic drive. Built by Toro, has a tilt steering wheel, nice.

 

I had a Wheelhorse 266H which is probably the same as your NH. If you want the hood to survive remove the plastic hooks at the firewall that make it snap into locked position. They make you jerk the hood loose and it eventually breaks the hood at the hinges. I think I actually left mine on but adjusted/rotated them to where they didn't lock

Thanks for the tip! I don't think the hood has any hooks or locks, I'll have to check. The grill and lower section is broken - somebody probably hit something. I have a Simplicity that the previous owner hit a tree while mowing drunk, takes all kinds i guess.

 

Ouch. A similar supply issue last year was why I ended up driving to NH to get my dump trailer, because the local supplier was months out on their orders, but a dealership down there happened to have one sitting on the lot.
