i like the positives of having a trailer to much to go back to having the tent on my truck again. overall its not bad sometimes it pushes me a little bit but not to bad it only weighs maybe 1k in weight

Yeah I’m not a fan of RTTs anywhere. If it was more than just me, I’d consider a trailer.... but its just me sooo

Theres lot of trade offs no matter what route you go

Or maybe i should get a trailer and a generator then i can be the guy running the geni all night so everyone else can listen to it run while i hang out in my ac

thats how you start some fights there! haha

and yup thats so true i loved my low pro rack but hated the access to things in the bed it made it awful!
loved the hi profile rack super easy access and looked great! but it was tippy and people liked to steal my shit....
the camper shell is great for long trips keeps everything nice and dry and locked away and its a clean look buuuuut its heavy af and still gives you a bit of a tippy state....
nothing is great for short trips were i dont need to worry about anything just throw it in the back and go but easy to steal or get wet
the trailer keeps it dry and secure and its cool to unhitch the trailer and go play and still have camp setup when i get back buuut you now have a thousand pound anchor behind you hurting mpg a bit more and also another set of axles to watch out for.

I really like my habitat but I don’t like that it isn’t fit specifically to my truck. They fit to all the trucks with that bed config (ex full size 5.5 includes Toyota, Ford, dodge, Chevy) so it’s pretty high above the roof line. On a f150 it’s pretty tight to the roof.

Curious to see the gfc v2 since they are custom fit to each vehicle

damn thats a shame did you see the new gfc lightweight tent they got now? where it extends in another direction to make it even larger? that one has my interest for swapping out my old tent with im tired of my style of tents lol

The one that was an April fools joke? Lol

Hardshell tents are the only way to go. The covers are stupid.

There’s a few companies that make tents like that tho

RTT in general are a lot of money.. they can be nice but it’s a lot to shell out unless you use it all the time

I'm more looking at something like an enclosed camper like a Hiker Trailer or an Enclosed trailer conversion. Something to set up at base camp and leave while I go wheel. Remote camping trips I can ground tent or just sleep out of the bed of the truck.

yup thats true ive used mine a lot over the years the main reason for a hard shell one is so its smaller lol and easier to open and close

For the price / quality - I would buy a trailer and do a conversion myself. It wouldn’t be super difficult

I’ve been considering a 20’ to setup as a toy hauler / camper

Been doing the ground sleeping thing for a while. It's not bad but seeing all the new tech stuff like RTTs and stuff I'd kinda like to get one. It just stinks you have to pay to play. One thing I've been looking at though is the Gazelle T3x. Looks like a good popup tent so you kind of get the best of both worlds. Easy setup and take down.
