Cot or good sleeping pad make a huge difference. Or both.

Cot really ain't bad. With the T3x you could do that. Only thing I don't like, not like it matters, is that it's more stuff to carry. I'm a travel with one tub kinda guy. I got my tent, stove and other things in one case and kinda like keep it that way.

I just like not having to setup a tent or have to break it down. Plus every air mattress I've ever owned deflates in the middle of the night! :annoyed:
With a 6x12 trailer I could slap a queen size mattress in it and have room for a kitchenette in the back. Add in a pressurized water tank and a small water heater and you could have showers too. I figure, doesn't need anything more than a little electric fan for warmer weather and a small space heater for colder weather to keep it nice. If I use a futon mattress, it could be folded up into a couch. Plus they are almost if not tall enough to for me to stand inside. It wouldn't need much more than some matching tires just in case I need to use the truck spare on the trailer or the trailer spare on the truck. If I hold onto my stock suspension I could possibly repurpose some of it onto the trailer if I really need it to be offroad capable.

Don't forget to throw around 50lbs of chain in the bed of your truck for 20 min at sunrise. Had somebody do that last year one of the few times we stayed at a campground. He was also the generator guy, so I shouldn't have expected anything different.

RTTs are heavy AF. I looked at them for a while, but there isn't anything a RTT can do that a camper shell can't. I also looked at the Gazelles, but when I realized they were just ice fishing huts with floors, I ditched that idea. All I'm ever doing in a tent is sleeping, which is never what I get excited for while camping. I prefer to spend my money and weight on things that make my sleep more quality. A good ultralight backpacking quilt and inflatable sleeping pad are a way better investment IMO. Obviously, I sleep in the camper shell so YYMV.

I also absolutely hate breaking down camp in the morning because it cuts into my coffee time. With the camper shell, I usually just fold up the quilt, roll up the pad and they both go into their tub. Takes less than 5 minutes so I can get my grub and coffee on. I love eggs. Like, a lot.
That guy's setup is super cool and well done, but after using the camper shell I can't justify the work involved.

Look at backpacking inflatable sleeping pads, they're so much better. Getting an insulated one makes a big difference if you do cold weather stuff.
I agree, but I've never understood the cot thing. It weighs more and seems redundant with a good sleeping pad. That tent/cot thing that one of the 4WD 24/7 guys uses has caught my eye. However, since what I have is working well, it's hard to justify buying more crap lol

    I feel so loved.

This is why we bought the popup. Take it and leave it. Have a RTT if we really don't wanna pull a trailer but old enough don't give a shit who profiles if we
    stay in a hotel.

    Hi Drew. Missed ya sunday.

Cots really depend on how you sleep. I typically sleep on my side, so a <3” inflatable or foam pad is worthless. Might as well just lay on the ground. I’ve got a 6” inflatable and picked up a megamat a while back. They are awesome but the packed size isn’t great. Cot I can setup and use as is or put a small foam or inflatable on it and be fine

or I just need to be more tired and I can sleep anywhere

    This.
I have gotten to the point I can usually sit and be asleep within five minutes.
Unless of course it's night, then can't sleep at all.

When I'm camping I either sleep like I'm in a tomb or I sleep for 10 minutes. There is no middle ground

Thought I posted, either removed or bad connection when posting.

Started a job at 4:30 am this morning. Definitely big change from computer work to this. My body permanently aching 24/7.

Also don't think some of you know I have a build thread. Posted that I got marlin crawler LCA frame brace kit arriving this Friday. Exciting. Still waiting on skids from Coastal Offroad. Hopefully instead of cancelled, the order just went to that place we originally supposed to send to.

I missed y'all too. We had to do two family meals on Sunday and I worked in the morning, so it was a pretty busy day for us.

On an unrelated note, I'm selling a leaf blower for a really reasonable $60 on CL and stated that I'd meet somewhere in the Northland. I just learned that using periods to end a sentence in a text is considered condescending, rather than proper grammar. Here's my first interaction from a prospective buyer:

People on craigs are all over the map. I can't even pretend I'm surprised anymore.

I once wanted to buy a dryer on craigs. Contact the person, we agree on a place to meet, but demands that i text him when i've got money in hand, and when i've left, and when i'm on my way, and when i get there, because he doesn't like getting stood up.

Guess who didn't show up and never sent an update?

"sorry man, life happens, wanna try again tomorrow?"
