If you ever do it, let me know if there's a cuw floating around for 2020 4runner, 35D70 to whatever it would become lol

Hey, @tonered, your first post says not to use a virtual machine. Not sure if it's any different, so I may be asking a silly question here: any issue updating an ECU on a Mac using Bootcamp, or is that considered a virtual machine? I've done everything OV related since 2017 using my Mac including some stuff with Techstream, but never an ECU update. It's not for my truck, so just want to be absolutely certain. Thanks in advance, Mike

No. Bootcamp is running Windows natively, it’s no different than running it on any other windows computer.

I’ve been running the tuning utilities and techstream on mine with bootcamp since 2017. I actually did my first TSB with a virtual machine though :anonymous:

So somewhere I found a post that said to email your key request to autokent[at]yandex.ru
and you will get it back quickly. So I figured why not?
I sent: country ("NA") and TS system key and what version of TS I'm using and asked very nicely, and literally within 90 minutes I got a response with about TWENTY-FIVE (25) keys to use for NA, JP, EU, OT countries! Yes, the first I tried worked, and still does as of this last weekend.
So yeah, you can use a throw-away email address if you care enough, I didn't bother and this was back in November with no new spam and still not V& so think I'm fine LOL!

Wasn't it recommended not to use hacked versions, or is the version on the tutorial not that?

That is unavoidable in our situation.

Note though, that the old TS V12 version was technically hacked. The linked V14 and V15 are not hacked. They are the original installation files. It is just the activation key that is hacked.

So more or less, use the version 14 with the install files as tutorial suggests or use MHH, download the latest off their website and wait for a key are the options?
I already have the 14, just was curious if it was worth the hassle for the 15x or 16x that I saw on the MHH website,.

The only reason that I jumped on V15 was because it was necessary to due Customizations on 2021s. I have V16 saved but have not installed it yet.

Fair enough. Is it assumed the MHH versions are better than the the 14v that we have on the tutorial, or for TSB updating purposes the 14v is just as well.

The only thing that I have seen for TSB updates is that there were no battery voltage requirements in V12 that I can remember. V14 was 11.8v. V15 is 12.0v. Most times, esp if someone left their headlights or seat heaters on, the battery will certainly be under 12.0v.

They all updated Tacos seemingly that same way.

Otherwise, it just makes the CUW file an executable file.

I use v14 for everything. The only reason for something newer would be TSBs on a 2021 but none exist today. I just applied a TSB to a 2020 with v14 over the weekend.

Just used the 14 to install the tsb. Worked fine. Disconnected from internet and got the “29 uses” deal. says connect to internet.....who knows.
    eitherway, it worked.

Stay offline. There's nothing additional going online unless you want to pay for a subscription to TIS.

Yes, though. If it didn't work, we would post up something that does. :D

For anyone epileptic, I don't recommend v16 lol just a small disclaimer. When it finishes installing a cuw, it'll take over your whole screen with a bright neon flashing sign saying FINISH! Lol

Why do they keep messing with something that seems to work? If a bunch of gomers like me can get through a flash, you'd think that the intended audience wouldn't need constant tweaks to the flasher?
