In March of 2020 I picked up my SR. After a year of driving it I have a couple small gripes.

    1. Intermittent gas pedal hesitation (seems to be in colder weather and on cold start. Acceleration is somewhat choppy for a brief time). I asked Toyota about this twice they had no answer.... this will stay on my watchlist
    2. Interior plastic is annoying in that it easily scratches-- especially around the door panels. It's a pickup, so I guess I'll just live with it and try to keep it clean as possible, drivers side is showing signs of wear.
    3. Cement colored seats.... not a good color choice for a utility vehicle. Picked up the RC wetsuit covers for $110. They fit like custom and really wash my worries away about someone spilling Dr. Pepper all over after hockey practice. They are as close as your gonna get to perfect fit for $100. Nice score.
    20210406_154843.jpg

    4. Drums are getting surface rust. Looks like I'll be cleaning them up and hitting them with paint before it gets out of hand.
    5. The seats felt like I was driving a sports coupe. A couple of bushings, longer bolts, and 1/2" standoffs fixed that quick.
    6. Still have the AC drain line dripping on the frame. They haven't fixed this in 25 years, so ac drain mod was the answer.

    Now for the good.
I hauled about 2000 lbs of river rock in the bed for 7 miles when it was brand new -- way overloaded -- I dont make a habit of it --- it handled the trip fine. I have loaded to capacity (about 900 lbs) several times with no issues and no power concerns with ECT. Bed mat and bed lights are a couple of inexpensive and handy OEM upgrades worth every penny.

My gas mileage seems to be around 21 average. 23 in the spring and around 20 in the dead of winter, so that is a big bonus. Lightweight wheels and tires were a must and it worked out good maintaining descent MPG. I'm happy about that with 265s.

We had a real winter and roads were salted throughout the winter. Washed up the undercarriage real good and inspected. Mavcoat steel shield did a great job. No signs of rust anywhere. I'll do the entire undercarriage/suspension again in about a month.

I'm very happy with the fact that I left this thing mainly OEM/stock. It drives smooth and straight. I have no rattles or weird clunking to track down and rectify. No extra mods to make after messing with suspension. For my day to day use I'm completely satisfied. Mild offroad is no problem. If I were getting really hardcore I might need a new setup, but if your on pavement 90% of the time the Stock SR suspension is good (at least for me). This thing drives like a sedan.

Just washed up all the winter grime and did my yearly colinite 845 wax job. I will say that I hate black paint unless it is clean. Basically its always dirty and looks like crap --- but when its clean --- it looks awesome. Only reason for getting black was that's what they had at the price I wanted to pay. I should have held out for silver or white.

Only put 12k miles on it due to the covid mess, but I have to say that I am really happy with my purchase and my choice of mods. It's not a hardcore rig, but for the average homeowner who goes off the beaten path from time to time and commutes 100 miles a day -- I plan on having this thing for the long haul.

Now for some 1 year old picture whoring.

This is probably the truck that convinced me SR is the way to go. Thanks for the write up and pics!

Well.. that's good to hear. I had an 03 sr5 for almost 475k, after my son rolled it I was really sad... I wanted it back. I wound up buying an 02 SR. I liked the fact that it didnt have flares, but learned pretty quick that body rot is real without mud flaps, so it's a tradeoff. For me the SR 5 wasn't worth an extra 3k. My buddy will be over tonight with his SR 5. Guarentee he'll ask why I didn't get a higher trim. I'll tell him I didn't want to sink an extra 3, 5, 7, 10 grand into the same truck simply for features I really dont need. These things are user friendly as far as diy wrenching goes, so anything I really want/need isnt too hard to do and is easier on the pocketbook. My buddy wont understand, similarly I wont understand why he bought an sr5 simply to have the auto rear slider window.... to each his own. Hope your as happy with your decision as I am

Honestly. My son got brand new v6 4x4 2020 SR SX package for 30k last year. Came with a tow package, bed lights, and a few other goodies. I paid 27500 for mine... so in reality he got a better deal than me. I honestly believe that the SR SX package is the best bang for your buck. I like His truck better than mine

Yes, great resources. My utility package has a solid rear window. Would like to have a slider, but I'm cheap.

I've been told our solid utility package Tacoma back windows can't be replaced with a sliding window. Like the hole is a different size from other packages. That can't be right, can it?

Hondo Garage, Unholy Mount. Will mount on any vent ring on a 3'rd generation Tacoma. Pricey, but awesome.125D6909-CF3C-4309-9408-2D3523C08050.jpg

This is the first I'm hearing of this. I do not know anyone that has tried to replace their rear solid glass. I would find it difficult to believe that the hole shape &/or size is different for the access cabs.

They say small family owned auto-glass companies might do it, filling in the bad fit with silicone, but I'm scared to do it for fear of leaks.
