Nice. Didn’t know that. I’ll have to look into one for using my wire wheels. My DeWalt will kick your ass when it catches.

Can you use the same slip joint? How much slip do you need for full travel?

I need it to be a couple of inches longer. Here are some measurements I took from the flange behind the carrier bearing to the flange on the pinion.

Here’s what everyone’s been waiting for. The rear is pretty much done. Just a few more little projects. I’ll be able to drive it and finish those little things. The drive shaft came out great too.

Might have to wait 9 months or so before the mall can accumulate another pile of snow large enough

But this thing is absolutely slathered in awesomesauce.

Who knew a snow pile in a mall parking lot would lead to this?

Working on the hood and grill now. Got to love fiberglass parts. They are always a challenge. I’m having some fittings issues with the grill and hood. I might have to trim the front of the hood just a little bit to have the grill fit better. The middle section of the hood and grill fits tight but the outer section of the hood around the headlights are curved upward. So there is a gap. I also had to cut a couple of sections (mounting tabs) off the hood by my cab just under the front doors because it will allow the hood to flip forward and not be stuck under the doors. I’m also going to make some awkward looking tubes coming out from under my grill into the bumper that the hood will bolt to and hinge on so the hood can flip forward. Kind of like a half moon shape with a mounting point at the end but we shall see how that works out. Oh and new headlights. The bottom white leds turn amber and act as a turn signal. I have a vid of it somewhere.

I ended up cutting the top front of the hood just a little bit more then an 1/8”. Then I made my mounts for the grill to pull the grill into the hood. Grill seems to be sitting pretty good. I can live with the gaps I have. Shit it’s fiberglass. Now onto the headlights.

Headlights mounted. Now on to the hat part. Designing a hinge for the hood to lift forward. Not much room to work with.

I went a different route then I was expecting to. It’s a cleaner set up and simple. I had all these crazy ideas on how to do this. Hooks work and hide behind the grille when the hood is closed. This is the 2nd location of the hooks. The first spot, the bottom of the hood was hitting the light bar and only opening up half ways. I do have to lift the front of the hood to put the bar on and off the hooks but it’s really not bad. Once on the hooks I just lift the back and the hood lifts forward on the hooks.
