--- 3/8"-16 all thread rod from Lowes/Home Depot (Quantity 2)
--- 3/8"-16 nuts (Quantity 4, two on back and 2 in front)
--- Ratchet straps, cable lock.

I intentionally left the all thread bolts long and used pliers to tighten down the bolts that way a regular socket or wrench wont be able to access the nut to prevent theft. I also did the cable lock because I am paranoid haha. Just keep whatever pliers you used in your truck so if you need to use the spare, you wont be in the same situation as the thieves haha. I also put a nut on the back side of the rods against the t-nuts to hold it a little more secure so the rods weren't moving on me. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions. All of it can be had at Home depot/Lowes except for the T-Nuts. If you search Tacoma T nuts. Lots will pop up. I just linked the ones I used.

 

Also note, I recommend AGAINST doing this on the side rails of your bed. Have seen lots of posts of that causing cracks from undue stress. The back portion I believe will handle it much better. Just a heads up since you have a 3rd gen. So if you plan to do this, I would make sure you have a bed rail up front and NOT run it on the side rails.

This is awesome. I read through, is it possible to leave the abs in place and remove the lock system and fold the seats up? Or do you have to remove the platforms completely to fold the seats back to seating configuration?

 

The platform has to be removed in order to re-deploy the seats. The platforms would block the seat from being able to click back into the locks. The female end on the back side of the seats actually sits kind of deep in the seat so anything restricting it from being able to seat itself all the way back in order to clip onto the U-bolt wouldn't work. Unfortunately! Because that would be an awesome storage area for it. However, the large platform weighs right at about 20 lbs and the 60% weighs like 15 lbs so they are very easy to move about and since they fold flat they can easily lay in the bed of the truck, and also wont take up any space in the garage or in closets because they can fold flat and sit flush against a wall. Good question!

 

Any chance a bigger U bolt could be used? Behind the seat would be ideal.

 

Honestly have no idea. That's a neat thought though. I only wonder about the seat and if it had a longer u bolt then it probably wouldn't allow the seat to go all the way back so it would position the back of the seat a little more vertical than angled. This is all speculation though.

Used the platform this weekend to get a few more plants to replace ones that didnt make it through the Texas Blizzard a few weeks back. Platform came in handy so the plants didn't get their leaves blown off in the bed, and also was very easy to clean off the excess/spilled dirt on the platform without needing to clean the seats!

 

Was thinking more about this yesterday and this morning. The other thing I thought of is the bottom part of the platform that gear would sit on, is actually longer than the back portion. So there would need to be extra slots cut into it to allow the u-bolts to go through it when folded, and ALSO since it is taller than the back portion, it would block a decent amount of your view and the rear corners of the truck are tapered a bit so even with those slots cut, I dont think it would fit making this not really a feasible option unless there was potentially another hinge added to the flat portion to prevent this.
All this to say I think it's possible to have it be able to store behind the seat with the right modifications but would definitely increase the price due to extra cuts and extra hinges as well as extra labor for the extra hinge being plastic welded. So it's an interesting thought but I dont know if I will pursue it unless there is a lot of interest in this. Simply due to it not being as strong with another hinge, also the hinge would be a raised portion on the usable surface, slots cut into the usable part of the platform, etc.

I am officially sold out of the full length platforms. I am currently working on another batch, to include the 40% option as well. I still have a few remaining 60% platforms in stock. I sold the full sizes faster than I thought I would need to get another batch made to not be out, so I apologize for being out of stock, they'll be back very soon!
